Structural Adhesive for Container Houses

Admin September 16, 2026

The selection of structural adhesives for container houses should be determined based on specific uses and performance requirements. Common types include waterproof sealants, structural adhesives, and specialized external-use structural adhesives, and they should be used in accordance with construction conditions and standard operating procedures.

1. Types of Structural Adhesives Classified by Use

  1. Waterproof Sealants
Used for waterproof sealing of gaps in container houses, requiring weather resistance and elasticity.
  • Silicone Sealants: Excellent high-temperature resistance, suitable for high-temperature environments or areas exposed to direct sunlight, but relatively weak in abrasion resistance.
  • Polyurethane Sealants: Abrasion-resistant and durable, with strong tear resistance, suitable for joints with frequent movement or dynamic loads.
  1. Structural Adhesives
Used for bonding panels or reinforcing load-bearing parts, requiring high strength and durability.
  • Epoxy Resin Adhesives: After curing, they have high hardness, with shear strengths up to 1000 MPa (e.g., 3M DP490), suitable for bonding hard materials such as metals and concrete, with strong chemical resistance.
  • Acrylic Structural Adhesives: Good toughness, capable of withstanding certain vibrations or impacts, suitable for bonding between panels or irregular structures.
  1. Specialized External-Use Structural Adhesives for Container Houses
Designed for extreme outdoor environments, requiring a balance of weather resistance, aging resistance, and long-term stability.
  • Two-Component Silicone Structural Adhesives (e.g., products from Renqiu Meiya Hollow Glass Fittings Factory): Abrasion-resistant and UV-resistant, suitable for container joints exposed to the outdoors for long periods.
  • Modified Epoxy Resin Steel Bonding Adhesives (e.g., products from Hebei Heishi Carbon Fiber Co., Ltd.): Resistant to湿热 (humid-heat) aging, suitable for bonding metals and concrete, with stable long-term performance.

2. Key Construction Considerations

  1. Surface Preparation: Thoroughly clean the surfaces before bonding to remove oil, rust, and dust, ensuring they are dry and free of moisture to enhance adhesive attachment.
  2. Temperature Control: The recommended construction environment temperature is 5°C-35°C. Low temperatures can slow down curing, while high temperatures may cause the adhesive to sag or degrade in performance.
  3. Curing Time: The curing times of different adhesives vary significantly (e.g., acrylic adhesives cure initially in a few minutes, while epoxy resin adhesives require 24 hours for full curing). Follow product instructions strictly to avoid premature loading or movement.

3. Selection Recommendations

  • Indoor Sealing: Prioritize polyurethane sealants for a balance of abrasion resistance and sealing performance.
  • High-Strength Load-Bearing: Choose epoxy resin structural adhesives to ensure load-bearing capacity.
  • Long-Term Outdoor Exposure: Select two-component silicone or modified epoxy resin adhesives for superior aging resistance.
  • Dynamic Structures: Acrylic structural adhesives offer toughness to accommodate vibrations or deformations.
