Stainless Steel Material for Container Houses
Stainless steel container houses are modular buildings with stainless steel as the core material, featuring corrosion resistance, high strength, and lightweight properties. They are suitable for cold, highly corrosive environments and temporary/semi-permanent functional spaces, but have limitations such as high initial costs and restricted interior space.

Material Characteristics and Advantages
Stainless steel, an iron-based alloy, primarily consists of iron, chromium (≥10.5%), and nickel, with possible additions of molybdenum and titanium. Its key characteristic stems from the dense chromium oxide 'passivation film' formed on its surface, which effectively blocks oxygen and moisture, significantly enhancing corrosion resistance. For example, in cold regions like Qiqihar, the chloride ions in road de-icing salts can easily corrode ordinary carbon steel, while stainless steel's passivation properties can resist such erosion, extending the building's lifespan. Additionally, stainless steel has higher yield and tensile strengths than ordinary carbon steel, allowing for the use of thinner plates under the same load, achieving structural lightweighting. Its excellent low-temperature toughness ensures it will not brittle fracture in environments tens of degrees below zero, ensuring structural safety.
Application Scenarios and Adaptability
- Cold and Highly Corrosive Regions: In Qiqihar, stainless steel container houses improve thermal insulation by adding internal keels and filling rock wool and other insulation materials, offering better airtightness than traditional construction methods, but requiring a配套 (matching) ventilation system. Their structural safety relies on the quality of standardized connectors and construction precision, considering the impact of foundation frost heave and wind and snow loads on the assembled structure. Functionally, they are more suitable for open spaces (such as workstations and equipment rooms), and long-term residency requires optimization of lighting, ventilation, and interior layout.
- Agricultural and Tourism Sectors: In Jilin Province, stainless steel container houses can be used to build corrosion-resistant storage or tool rooms or quickly set up seasonal tourism camp facilities. When used as temporary office/accommodation spaces, their thermal performance mainly depends on the wall insulation layer (such as high-efficiency insulation materials on the inner side) after integrating insulation, water and electricity, and ventilation systems, rather than the outer metal cladding, meeting energy-saving requirements.
Manufacturing Process and Cost
Manufacturing involves plate cutting, pressing, inert gas shielded welding (to prevent chromium element burnout), and surface treatment (retaining metallic luster or wire drawing, sandblasting to enhance texture/hardness). Its advantages include strong durability (reducing maintenance costs), repeatable relocation (modular support for functional reorganization), and potentially lower lifecycle costs than traditional buildings. However, limitations include higher initial costs than mobile board houses and restricted interior space due to the standard container width (about 2.4 meters), requiring meticulous design for long-term residency.
