Container House Specifications

Admin September 15, 2026

The common specifications of container houses are mainly 20-foot and 40-foot, with specific dimensions varying according to their intended use and modification methods. The following provides an explanation from four aspects: standard specifications, extended specifications, combined specifications, and special-purpose specifications.

Standard Specifications: According to international standards, the external dimensions of a 20-foot container house are typically 6.058 meters in length, 2.438 meters in width, and 2.591 meters in height, with internal clear dimensions of approximately 5.898 meters in length, 2.352 meters in width, and 2.393 meters in height. For a 40-foot container house, the external dimensions are 12.192 meters in length, 2.438 meters in width, and 2.591 meters in height, with internal clear dimensions of approximately 12.032 meters in length, 2.352 meters in width, and 2.393 meters in height. These types of container houses are structurally robust and easy to transport, making them suitable as independent office units commonly used in project departments and construction site command centers.

Extended Specifications: Some container houses incorporate side or end expansion modules in addition to the standard container dimensions. For example, the 20-foot dual-wing expansion container used in a project in Chile has its side spaces folded during transportation. Upon arrival at the site, the side wings are unfolded, creating an indoor usable space of approximately 36 square meters, expanding the actual usable area while maintaining transportation efficiency.

Combined Specifications: Container houses can be used individually or combined. For instance, when three 40-foot container houses are combined, the resulting dimensions can reach 11.8 meters in length, 6.75 meters in width, and 2.8 meters in height, providing a usable area of 80 square meters that can accommodate various purposes such as living, office, dining, and dormitory functions.

Special-Purpose Specifications: To meet different scenario requirements, container houses also come in various special specifications. The general domestic standard dimensions are 6 meters in length, 3 meters in width, and 2.9 meters in height, while the general export dimensions are 6 meters in length, 2.4 meters in width, and 2.9 meters in height. Additionally, there are various other specifications such as 6×2.5×2.6 meters, 8×2.5×2.6 meters, and 12×2.5×2.6 meters, which can adapt to different spatial and functional needs.
