How Much Space Does a Container House Have

Admin September 15, 2026

The space size of container houses varies depending on their type, purpose, and design, with common dimensions ranging from 9 square meters to 36 square meters, and special designs can be expanded to even larger spaces.

I. Standard Container House Sizes

  1. Small Container House: Typically measures 3 meters in length, 3 meters in width, and 2.8 meters in height, with an area of approximately 9 square meters. This size is relatively small and suitable for scenarios with low space requirements, such as construction site guardrooms and small warehouses.

  2. Medium Container House: Often measures 6 meters in length, 3 meters in width, and 2.8 meters in height, with an area of about 18 square meters. This is a common standard-sized container house on the market, widely used in construction site dormitories, offices, and temporary shops. Its spatial layout is reasonable and can meet basic living or office needs.

  3. Large Container House: Can measure up to 7 meters in length, 3 meters in width, and 2.8 meters in height, with an area of approximately 21 square meters. This size is often used for two-story container mobile homes, featuring corridors and balconies, providing a more spacious living space.

II. Special Design Container House Sizes

  1. Double-Wing Expandable Container: Taking a Chilean project as an example, it uses a 20-foot double-wing expandable container. During transportation, the spaces on both sides are folded in for easy loading into containers and international shipping; upon arrival at the site, the wings on both sides are expanded to form an indoor usable space of approximately 36 square meters. This design balances transportation efficiency with actual usable area.

  2. Multi-Story Container Building: For instance, a four-story building constructed from 16 containers, with each container measuring approximately 12 meters in length, 2.4 meters in width, and 3 meters in height. Through flexible stacking and splicing, it creates an impressive spatial scale. This construction method not only reduces costs but also shortens the construction period.

III. Customized Container House Sizes

In addition to standard sizes, container houses can also be customized according to customer needs. The size and area of customized types can vary greatly, depending on discussions with the manufacturer. This flexibility allows container houses to adapt to various special scenarios.
