Admin September 16, 2026

The sizes of container houses vary depending on their type and purpose, with common dimensions ranging from 3m × 3m to 12m × 2.4m. They can be categorized into standard sizes, foreign trade sizes, customized sizes, and special-purpose sizes.

I. Standard Sizes
The standard sizes of container houses typically refer to the specifications of maritime shipping containers to accommodate modular design and transportation needs.

  • 20-foot Standard Container (20GP): The external dimensions are 6058mm (length) × 2438mm (width) × 2591mm (height), with internal dimensions of 5867mm × 2330mm × 2350mm, covering an area of approximately 12.98 square meters. It is suitable for single-person offices, dormitories, or shops.
  • 40-foot Standard Container (40GP): The external dimensions are 12192mm × 2438mm × 2591mm, with internal dimensions of 11998mm × 2330mm × 2350mm, covering an area of approximately 25.96 square meters. It can be divided into multi-functional spaces or multi-person dormitories.
  • 40-foot High Cube Container (40HQ): The external height is increased to 2896mm, with an internal height of 2655mm, suitable for exhibition halls or housing with height requirements.

II. Foreign Trade Sizes
The size range of foreign trade container houses is broader to meet international transportation standards:

  • Lengths range from 5.8 meters to 11.5 meters, with a fixed width of 2.2 meters, corresponding to the two main models of 20-foot and 40-foot containers.
  • For example, the 5.8m × 2.2m model covers an area of approximately 12.76 square meters, while the 11.5m × 2.2m model covers an area of approximately 25.3 square meters.

III. Customized Sizes
According to customer needs, the sizes of container houses can be flexibly adjusted:

  • Length: Options include 3 meters, 6 meters, 9 meters, or 12 meters, supporting the arrangement and combination of multiple compartments.
  • Width: Commonly 3 meters, but can also be customized to 2.5 meters, 2.55 meters, or 4 meters.
  • Height: The standard height is 2.8 meters, adjustable to 2.6 meters, 2.7 meters, or 2.9 meters.
  • Special Purposes: For example, construction site living containers commonly have dimensions of 3m × 3m × 2.8m (covering an area of 9 square meters, accommodating 2 people) or 6m × 3m × 2.8m (covering an area of 18 square meters, accommodating 10 people).

IV. Special-Purpose Sizes
Some container houses are designed to meet specific needs:

  • Giant Container Buildings: Composed of multiple standard containers, such as each container being 12 meters long, 2.4 meters wide, and 3 meters high, stacked to form a four-story building.
  • Packing-Box Container Houses: With internal dimensions of 5880mm × 2840mm × 2500mm and a weight of 1350kg, suitable for rapidly deployable temporary housing.
