Container House Size Standards
Admin September 15, 2026
There are no absolutely uniform size standards for container houses, and common sizes include the following types:

I. Conventional Standard Sizes
- Small Size: Length 3 meters, width 3 meters, height 2.8 meters, with an area of 9 square meters. Due to its limited space and restricted material utilization, this size is usually only produced when customers have special requirements and is mostly used for construction site guardrooms or small warehouses.
- Universal Standard Size: Length 6 meters, width 3 meters, height 2.8 meters, with an area of 18 square meters. This is the most common specification in domestic construction sites and road construction projects. It can accommodate about 10 people for living and can also be transformed into functional rooms such as kitchens and toilets.
- Extended Size: Length 7 meters, width 3 meters, height 2.8 meters, with an area of 21 square meters. These containers are mostly used for two-story temporary buildings. By adding corridors and balconies, the space utilization rate is improved, making them suitable for use as dormitories or office spaces.
II. Special-Purpose Sizes
- International Standard Container Modifications: Some container houses are modified from maritime standard containers, such as 20-foot (about 6 meters) and 40-foot (about 12 meters) specifications. These houses have strong load-bearing capacities, with a 20-foot container capable of bearing up to 25 tons and a 40-foot container having an even higher load-bearing capacity. They are suitable for large-span sports buildings or large-scale modular buildings.
- Foldable Containers: The sizes are designed according to needs. Standard models follow international container sizes (6 meters or 12 meters), while non-standard models can be customized to adapt to scenarios such as temporary housing and exhibition halls, making transportation and installation more convenient.
III. Customized Sizes
According to customer requirements, container houses can be customized to any size, with areas ranging from small to large. For example, a project once used containers with a length of 12 meters, width of 2.4 meters, and height of 3 meters to拼接 (assemble) a four-story building. Customized designs require consultation with the manufacturer, taking into account transportation, structural safety, and functional requirements.
