Container House Size Illustration

Admin September 15, 2026

Common sizes of container houses include standard sizes and customized non-standard sizes, with specific dimensions varying based on their intended use and modification methods.

I. Standard Container Sizes International standard containers primarily come in 20-foot and 40-foot lengths, with internal clear dimensions constrained by the container's structural design.

  • 20-foot Standard Container: External dimensions are 6058×2438×2591 mm, with internal clear dimensions approximately 5898×2352×2390 mm, a volume of about 33 cubic meters, and a load capacity of up to 25 tons. These containers are commonly used for single-person offices, dormitories, or small shops.
  • 40-foot Standard Container: External dimensions are 12192×2438×2591 mm, with internal clear dimensions approximately 12024×2352×2390 mm, a volume of about 67 cubic meters, and a load capacity of up to 45 tons. Its space can be divided into multifunctional areas, suitable for multi-person dormitories or small to medium-sized office spaces.
  • 40-foot High Cube Container: The height is increased to 2896 mm (internal clear height of 2655 mm), with a volume of about 86 cubic meters, suitable for scenarios requiring higher ceilings, such as exhibition halls or loft-style housing.

II. Customized Non-Standard Sizes To meet diverse needs, container houses can achieve flexible size adjustments through cutting, welding, or modular combinations.

  • Common Specifications:
    • 3×3×2.8 meters (9 square meters): Suitable for temporary storage or small tool sheds, but typically require custom orders due to low material utilization.
    • 6×3×2.8 meters (18 square meters): A common standard size on construction sites, used for worker dormitories or on-site offices.
    • 7×3×2.8 meters (21 square meters): Often used as two-story container mobile homes, equipped with corridors and balconies.
  • Expandable Designs:
    • Combined dimensions of 3×6×3 meters, expandable to 5.5×6×3 meters (33 square meters), achieving space expansion through sidewall folding or sliding rail structures to meet family living or small commercial needs.
  • Fully Customized Sizes: Length, width, and height can be adjusted according to requirements, such as 3×8 meters, 3×12 meters, etc. Width options include 2.5 meters, 3 meters, or 4 meters, and height options range from 2.6 meters to 2.9 meters. Door and window positions, partitions, and interior decorations can all be personalized.

III. Special Types of Container Sizes

  • Open-Top Containers: The top is open for easy loading of large equipment. A 20-foot open-top container has a volume of about 31.5 cubic meters, while a 40-foot version has about 65 cubic meters.
  • Flat-Rack Containers: The bottom is flat, suitable for transporting overweight cargo. A 20-foot flat-rack container has a volume of about 28 cubic meters.
  • High-Strength Ocean Containers: Constructed with weather-resistant steel frames, these containers adhere to international standards in size but offer higher structural strength and a lifespan of over 10 years.
