Container House Single Room

Admin September 15, 2026

A container house single room usually refers to an independent living unit transformed from a standard container, featuring modularity, mobility, and cost controllability. Its common size is 3 meters by 6 meters, and it meets basic living needs through functional overlapping design inside.

I. Structural and Material Characteristics

The container house single room takes a steel structure frame as its core, with the outer layer made of galvanized steel plates or weather-resistant coated steel plates, providing wind and earthquake resistance. For example, the products of Suzhou Zhongnan Steel Structure Co., Ltd. have a frame deformation of only 2mm under a strong wind of level 12, meeting the GB50011-2010 Code for Seismic Design of Buildings. The middle is filled with thermal insulation materials such as rock wool and polystyrene, with a typical thickness of 80-100 millimeters. Combined with an inner layer of PVC-coated steel plates or moisture-proof aluminum foil layers, it can reduce heat transfer efficiency and adapt to cold northern or humid southern environments. Some products further optimize thermal performance by adding an elevated floor to block ground cold bridges.

II. Spatial Functional Design

The single room adopts a compact layout inside, achieving efficient space utilization through functional overlapping strategies:

  • Wet area: The kitchen and bathroom are concentrated at one end of the container, using integrated bathroom technology for waterproof integration and reducing pipeline intersections.
  • Dry area: The living and sleeping areas achieve day-night functional switching through variable furniture, such as wall-mounted folding tables and drop-down beds, which can be folded up during non-use periods to free up activity space.
  • Storage system: Fixed-size containers (e.g., 3 meters by 6 meters) require residents to systematically plan item storage; otherwise, the actual usable area may shrink by more than 20%.

III. Application Scenarios and Performance Adaptation

  • Emergency support: Foldable containers can be compressed to 1/5 of their expanded volume, with a single truck able to carry 20 sets. The transportation cost per set can be as low as 150 yuan, suitable for rapid mass deployment.
  • Engineering camps: The all-steel structure frame has a wind resistance rating of level 12, and a single module can be assembled in just 4 hours, with the construction period for 10 camp houses not exceeding 3 days.
  • Commercial temporary spaces: They support customized structures such as curved walls and floor-to-ceiling glass windows, with an internal space utilization rate exceeding 90%. They can be reused more than 15 times, with the cost per use being 1/3 of that of a new product.

IV. Limitations

  • Sense of spatial confinement: The standard container has an internal height of about 2.4 meters, and the net height after ceiling and floor installation may be only 2.1 meters, limiting the activities of tall people.
  • Shortcomings in thermal performance: The metal container has a high thermal conductivity coefficient, and relying solely on plate insulation is difficult to cope with extreme climates, requiring optimization through thermal compensation mechanisms.
  • Disassembly and assembly losses: The fatigue loss of connecting bolts increases with the number of disassembly and assembly operations, and the risk of structural deformation rises by about 15% after more than 5 times.
