Self-Welding of Container Houses
Admin September 15, 2026
If you want to weld a container house yourself, you need to master key steps such as material selection, frame welding, anti-corrosion and thermal insulation, and strictly follow safety regulations.

Material Selection and Frame Welding
- Material Preparation: Channel steel and square tubes are commonly used for the frame of container houses. For example, 5X10 channel steel can be used for the main crossbeams around the chassis, and 4X8X2.0 square steel can be used for the crossbeams of the chassis with a spacing of 35 centimeters. The thickness of the columns should be no less than 1mm, and they usually require professional equipment for shaping or can be purchased ready-made. The six columns of the house and the four perimeter beams of the roof can be fully welded using 5X5X2.0 square steel.
- Frame Welding: First, weld the chassis by assembling the channel steel into a chassis frame according to the design dimensions, and then weld the square steel crossbeams onto the chassis. Next, weld the columns and the roof perimeter beams to ensure a firm connection and form a stable house frame structure, which is crucial for the sturdiness of the house.
Anti-Corrosion and Thermal Insulation Treatment
- Anti-Corrosion Treatment: To extend the service life of the container house, anti-corrosion treatment is required. Generally, apply one coat of epoxy zinc-rich primer followed by two coats of topcoat, ensuring that the painting process meets standards to prevent steel from rusting and corroding.
- Thermal Insulation and Fire Protection: Wall panels can use materials such as 50mm or 75mm rock wool boards, glass wool boards, or flame-retardant foam. These materials not only provide thermal insulation but also meet fire protection requirements, enhancing the safety and comfort of the house.
Safety Precautions
- Welding Safety: Welding generates high temperatures and sparks, so wear protective gear such as face shields and gloves to prevent eye and skin injuries. Ensure good ventilation at the welding site to avoid inhaling harmful gases.
- Structural Safety: When welding the frame, ensure the quality of the welds to avoid issues such as cold welds or missed welds, ensuring the structural stability of the house. When lifting and stacking container houses, strictly follow operating procedures to prevent accidents.
