Container House Roof Waterproofing

Admin September 15, 2026

Waterproofing the roof of a container house requires a comprehensive approach that combines material selection, key construction points, and maintenance measures.

I. Selection of Waterproofing Materials

  1. Specialized Waterproof Coatings

    • Polyurethane Waterproof Coating: It has good elasticity and is suitable for waterproofing complex nodes (such as pipe roots and corners), effectively handling structural deformations.
    • Water-Based High-Chlorination Coating: It is resistant to acids, alkalis, and salt spray, making it suitable for anti-corrosion and waterproofing of container roofs, especially in humid or corrosive environments.
    • Reflective Heat-Insulating Waterproof Coating (e.g., R303 with a topcoat): It combines heat insulation and waterproofing functions, reducing the roof temperature in summer and delaying coating aging.
  2. Membrane Materials

    • Polymer Waterproof Membranes (e.g., PVC, TPO): They have strong weather resistance and are suitable for large-area laying, but attention should be paid to the treatment of lap joints.
    • Asphalt-Based Waterproof Membranes: They are low-cost but have relatively poor durability and require regular maintenance.
  3. Structural Optimization Materials

    • Color-Coated Steel Sheets: Commonly used for container roofs, they need to be used in combination with waterproof washers and structural sealants to seal joints and prevent rainwater leakage.

II. Key Construction Points

  1. Base Layer Treatment

    • Remove dust and oil stains from the roof surface, repair cracks and uneven areas, and ensure that the base layer is dry and flat.
    • For metal roofs, remove rust and apply anti-rust paint; for concrete roofs, apply an interface agent to enhance adhesion.
  2. Node Reinforcement Treatment

    • Fastener Waterproofing: Use waterproof washers or sealants to seal screw holes to prevent leakage caused by loosening.
    • Joint Sealing: For areas such as pipes and gutters, use glass glue or additional layers of waterproof membranes to ensure there are no gaps.
  3. Drainage System Design

    • Ensure that the roof slope is ≥2% and the gutter width is ≥300 mm. Install filters at drainage outlets to prevent clogging.
    • Regularly clean the drainage troughs to avoid water accumulation and corrosion of the roof.

III. Maintenance and Repair

  1. Regular Inspections
    • Inspect the roof coating, joints, and fasteners every six months. Promptly repair any signs of aging or damage.
  2. Local Repairs
    • For small-area leakage, use waterproof coatings or sealants for local application; for large-area aging, relay the membranes or coatings.

Tip: Waterproofing the roof of a container house requires considering both material performance and construction details. It is recommended to choose materials with strong weather resistance and good elasticity and strictly follow construction specifications to extend the service life.
