Container House Roof Insulation

Admin September 15, 2026

Roof insulation for container houses can be achieved through methods such as selecting insulation materials, raising the roof, optimizing the roof structure, and adding temperature control equipment. Details are as follows:

  • Selecting insulation materials:

    • Sandwich panels: For example, structural insulated panels (SIPs) are usually composed of an outer layer of anti-corrosion color-coated steel plate, a middle layer of polyurethane foam, and an inner layer of fire-resistant gypsum board + moisture-proof film. The outer color-coated steel plate reflects sunlight, the middle polyurethane foam layer blocks heat conduction, and the inner fire-resistant gypsum board + moisture-proof film work together to control humidity and stabilize temperature, effectively improving the thermal insulation performance of the house. There are also sandwich panels with aluminum foil reflective layers that can reflect part of the heat and enhance the insulation effect.
    • Other panels: Fiberglass-reinforced polyester trapezoidal plastic roof panels, lightweight and high-strength fiberglass skylight panels, etc., have characteristics such as anti-yellowing, UV resistance, and impact resistance, and can also be used for roof insulation. In addition, common thermal insulation materials such as polystyrene boards and rock wool boards have low thermal conductivity and good thermal insulation performance, can block heat transfer, and can be considered for use on roofs.
  • Raising the roof: By raising the roof, increasing the height of the indoor space, and forming an air insulation layer, indoor thermal insulation problems can be better solved. For example, in the container house in San Antonio, Texas, USA, after the ceiling was raised, the thermal insulation effect was significantly improved.

  • Optimizing the roof structure:

    • Triangular roofs or A-frame roofs: This structure has metal plates at the top to protect against heat and rain. The middle semi-transparent part allows natural light to penetrate, and the lower part is equipped with steel plate shutters that can block rainwater and strong light while allowing air to flow through the cabin, maximizing ventilation and preventing heat from accumulating in the room.
    • Adjustable sunshades and bottom ventilation slots: Install adjustable sunshades on the roof and adjust the angle according to the intensity of sunlight to reduce direct sunlight exposure; set up bottom ventilation slots to promote air circulation, carry away heat, and lower the indoor temperature.
  • Adding temperature control equipment: Install facilities such as air conditioners, entrance air curtains, and graphene floor heating to regulate the indoor temperature, make up for the lack of roof insulation, and improve living comfort.
