Container House Roof Cooling Methods

Admin September 16, 2026

Cooling the roof of a container house can be achieved through methods such as reflective heat-insulating coatings, adding insulation layers, setting up ventilation interlayers, applying shading facilities, roof greening, and using special materials.

  1. Reflective Heat-Insulating Coatings: Applying reflective heat-insulating coatings, such as 'Ice Paint', on the roof. These coatings contain nano-sized ceramic hollow microspheres and infrared-reflective resins that effectively block heat conduction and reflect infrared heat, reducing the roof surface temperature by 12-22°C and the indoor temperature by 5-8°C.

  2. Adding Insulation Layers: During the construction of the container house roof, increasing the thickness of the foam or using insulation materials such as rock wool, glass wool, or polyurethane foam, laid on the inner or outer side of the roof, to block heat transfer to the interior. The thickness of the insulation layer should be calculated based on climatic conditions and requirements to balance cost-effectiveness and performance.

  3. Setting Up Ventilation Interlayers: Installing vents or ventilators on the roof to utilize the principle of hot air rising, creating natural airflow that carries away heat accumulated beneath the roof. Properly designing the ventilation path can enhance heat dissipation and reduce the burden on air conditioning systems.

  4. Applying Shading Facilities: Setting up shade nets or canopies above the roof to directly block some sunlight. Shading materials should consider light transmittance, wind resistance, and service life, suitable for retrofitting existing buildings, simple and easy to implement.

  5. Roof Greening: Laying lawns or vegetation layers on the roof to lower the surrounding ambient temperature through plant transpiration, while the vegetation layer blocks direct sunlight. Consideration should be given to structural load-bearing, waterproofing, and maintenance costs, which are eco-friendly and aesthetically pleasing.

  6. Using Special Materials: Adopting new building materials processed from black steel plates and polystyrene foam, or using materials with heat-insulating properties such as rock wool, to improve the overall heat-insulating performance of the roof.
