Installation of Color Steel Tiles on Container House Roofs

Admin September 15, 2026

When installing color steel tiles on container house roofs, it is essential to focus on edge treatment, installation steps, fastening methods, and waterproofing measures. Details are as follows:

Edge Treatment

  • Ridge Tile Installation: Install dedicated ridge tiles at the highest point of the roof to cover the top ends of the color steel tile panels, preventing rainwater from seeping through gaps.
  • Flanging and Edge Wrapping: Create flanges along the roof edges, eaves, and gutters, and wrap them with color steel tiles to ensure complete roof coverage. For example, at the eaves, fold the color steel tiles upward and secure them to prevent rainwater backflow.
  • Slope Requirements: Ensure that the installation of color steel tiles meets the design slope requirements (e.g., 5% or 10%) to facilitate natural rainwater drainage and reduce the risk of water accumulation.

Installation Steps

  1. Framework Construction: Select a wooden or steel framework based on the roof dimensions, with longitudinal spacing of 50-70 cm and transverse spacing in multiples of 25 cm to ensure tight connections.
  2. Color Steel Tile Placement:
    • Overlapping Method: Suitable for roof lengths ≤15 m, with sealed treatment for overlapping tile sections.
    • Staggered Method: Suitable for roof lengths ≥15 m, with tiles arranged in a staggered pattern to enhance waterproofing.
  3. Node Treatment: Seal the joints between side tiles with cement and cover them with ridge tiles. Use small tile stops at the bottom of ridge tiles. Trim and overlap ridge tile joints, sealing them with glass glue.

Fastening Methods

  • Special Fasteners: Use self-tapping screws or blind rivets to secure the color steel tiles to the purlins or rafters, with a fastener spacing of 50-100 cm (approximately 4 fasteners per square meter). Ensure that the fasteners penetrate the middle of the tile ribs to enhance waterproofing.
  • Waterproof Washers: Place waterproof washers on the purlins to prevent rainwater from seeping through the fastening points.
  • Sealing Materials: Fill the joints and gaps between tiles with sealant or waterproof coating to ensure no leakage.

Waterproofing Measures

  • No Additional Waterproof Layer Required Before Installation: Color steel tiles themselves serve as a waterproof layer. As long as the installation is carried out according to specifications (e.g., proper edge treatment, reasonable slope, secure fastening), effective waterproofing can be achieved.
  • Waterproofing for Protrusions: Install V-shaped water receivers at roof protrusions (e.g., vents, pipes), seal the bottom, and then lay the color steel tiles.
  • Connection of Inclined Surfaces: Cut the tiles on two roof surfaces at an angle, install gutters at the bottom, and seal them with waterproof adhesive.
