Container House Renovation Technology

Admin September 15, 2026

Container house renovation technology mainly includes aspects such as structural design, anti-corrosion treatment, thermal insulation, water and electricity renovation, and personalized customization.

Structural Design: The first issue to be addressed in container house renovation is structural mechanics. The traditional container has a large spacing between the longitudinal beams of the bottom frame, and direct habitation can lead to insufficient floor stiffness. During renovation, C-shaped steel purlins can be installed between the bottom beams to evenly distribute the load to each main beam, ensuring structural stability when stacked up to three layers. At the same time, attention should be paid to the wall thickness of the steel, with common specifications ranging from 1.5 mm to 3 mm. The thicker the wall thickness, the greater the load-bearing redundancy.

Anti-corrosion Treatment: The anti-corrosion lifespan of container houses is significantly affected by the coating process. Hot-dip galvanizing has a longer anti-corrosion lifespan than cold-dip galvanizing, especially in areas with large temperature differences between day and night and significant humidity changes, where the coating quality directly determines the rusting speed of the container body. During renovation, the surface of the container body should be shot-blasted to remove rust and then sprayed with a zinc-rich primer and a polyurethane topcoat to form a protective system and extend the service life of the steel.

Thermal Insulation: Container houses need to address the cold and hot bridge effect of the metal container walls. The conventional approach is to attach insulation boards on the inside, but this can easily create heat conduction channels at the steel frames. An improved solution is to adopt a broken-bridge lining structure, that is, fill rigid polyurethane foam between the steel frames and the interior wall panels, and install rubber thermal insulation pads at the frame connections to reduce the heat exchange efficiency between the inside and outside of the container by about 40%.

Water and Electricity Renovation: Container houses need to reserve water and electricity pipeline interfaces to ensure complete living functions. During renovation, it is necessary to reasonably plan the pipeline layout to avoid damaging the container structure during later construction. At the same time, attention should be paid to waterproofing treatment, such as applying waterproof glue on the roof to extend the service life.

Personalized Customization: Container house renovation can be carried out according to needs for personalized design, such as adding doors and windows, adjusting the interior layout, and installing smart home devices. Some renovation projects also expand the usable area through hydraulic telescopic structures or integrate solar panels and rainwater collection systems to achieve comprehensive functionality.
