Container House Renovation and Customization
Admin September 15, 2026
Container house renovation and customization require comprehensive consideration of functional requirements, structural design, material selection, and budget, among other factors, as detailed below:

Functional Requirements and Scene Adaptation
- Residential Scenarios: For long-term residence, attention should be paid to thermal performance compensation, such as adopting a three-layer structure (outer layer of galvanized steel sheet, intermediate layer of rock wool insulation, and inner layer of PVC-coated steel sheet), and adding an elevated floor to block ground cold bridge conduction, thereby reducing indoor temperature fluctuations. Meanwhile, rational planning of spatial functional zoning is essential, such as compressing the kitchen and bathroom to one end of the container to form a wet area, using integrated bathroom technology for waterproof integration; and achieving day-night functional switching in the living and sleeping areas through furniture variability.
- Temporary Accommodation and Commercial Scenarios: For scenarios such as short-term turnover in construction projects or temporary commercial pop-ups, focus should be placed on deployment efficiency and reusability. For example, choosing foldable containers with hydraulic automatic deployment structures can enable a single operator to complete the deployment and fixation of a container set in just 5 minutes, significantly enhancing project start-up speed.
Structural Design and Material Selection
- Steel Structure Corrosion Protection and Load-Bearing Optimization: The traditional container's bottom frame has large spacing between longitudinal beams, which can lead to insufficient floor stiffness when used directly as a living space. During renovation, C-shaped steel purlins should be added between the bottom beams to evenly distribute the load to each main beam, enabling the container to maintain structural stability even when stacked three layers high. Meanwhile, the container surface should be shot-blasted for rust removal and then sprayed with a zinc-rich primer and polyurethane topcoat to extend the service life of the steel.
- Thermal Insulation Performance Enhancement: To address the cold and heat bridge effect of metal container walls, a broken-bridge lining structure can be adopted, filling hard polyurethane foam between the steel frame and interior wall panels, and adding rubber thermal insulation pads at the frame connections to reduce the heat exchange efficiency between the interior and exterior of the container by approximately 40%.
Budget and Cost Control
- Transportation and Warehousing Costs: For bulk and rapid deployment, products that are foldable, have a small volume when folded, and can be loaded in large quantities onto a single truck should be chosen to reduce transportation costs. For example, the foldable containers from Suzhou Zhongnan have a folded volume that is only one-fifth of their deployed state, allowing a single truck to carry 20 sets at once, resulting in lower transportation costs per set.
- Material Recycling and Environmental Protection: The core value of container houses lies in the full lifecycle recycling of their materials. Compared to traditional prefabricated panel houses, container houses have a disassembly and assembly damage rate controlled within 5%, significantly reducing construction waste generation.
