Covering Container Houses with Tarpaulins for Rain Leakage

Admin September 17, 2026

When container houses leak rain, specialized container tarpaulins or waterproof canopies can be used to cover the leaking areas to solve the rain leakage problem. Here are the specific operations and precautions:

1. Selection of Tarpaulin Types
Container tarpaulins on the market need to possess core characteristics such as weather resistance, flame retardancy, and waterproofing. Common types include:

  • PVC Printed Cloth: Coated with a PVC layer on the surface, it has excellent waterproof performance and can be customized with patterns, suitable for scenarios where aesthetics are important.
  • Flexible PVC Waterproof Canvas: Soft in texture and highly tear-resistant, it is suitable for complex roof structures or container houses that are frequently moved.
  • Knife-Coated Cloth: Formed with a high-density coating through a knife-coating process, it has outstanding abrasion resistance. For example, the 500-gram yellow knife-coated cloth, with its thickened design, enhances sun and rain protection and is suitable for long-term outdoor use.
  • PVC Mesh Cloth: Sandwiched with a high-strength mesh in the middle, it combines flexibility with impact resistance. Some products also have flame-retardant functions, such as the outdoor thickened abrasion-resistant flame-retardant container protective cover, which can also protect the roof from external damage.

2. Covering and Fixing Methods

  • Size Matching: Select a tarpaulin according to the length and width dimensions of the container roof to ensure complete coverage of the leaking area and a surrounding margin of 20-30 centimeters to prevent rainwater from seeping in from the edges.
  • Fixing Method: Use windproof ropes, sandbags, or special buckles to fix the edges of the tarpaulin to the container frame or ground anchors to prevent it from being blown away by strong winds. If there are protrusions on the roof (such as vents), seal the joints between the tarpaulin and the objects with waterproof tape.
  • Targeted Treatment of Leaking Areas: If the rain leakage is concentrated in specific areas (such as seams), first repair them with waterproof glue or sealant, and then cover them with a tarpaulin as a double safeguard.

3. Long-Term Solution Recommendations
Covering with a tarpaulin is a temporary emergency measure. To completely solve the rain leakage problem, it is recommended to check the integrity of the container roof's waterproof layer and, if necessary, reapply waterproof coating or replace aged roof panels. During daily maintenance, regularly clean debris from the roof (such as leaves and snow) to prevent water accumulation or external damage to the waterproof layer.
