Poor Mobile Signal in Container Houses
Admin September 17, 2026
The poor mobile signal in container houses mainly stems from the shielding effect of materials, structural enclosure, and the superposition of environmental factors. It can be improved through passive enhancement, active equipment, and optimized network access solutions.

Core Reasons for Poor Signal
- Material Shielding Effect: The steel body of container houses has a natural shielding effect on electromagnetic waves. Galvanized steel plates with a thickness of ≥5cm can attenuate the signal by 30-50dB. The 'Faraday cage' effect formed by the metal shell hinders the penetration of external signals, especially when doors and windows are closed.
- Structural Enclosure: Standard container houses have a limited number of doors and windows that are concentrated. When closed, the space is enclosed, further weakening the signal entry channels. For example, a container relying solely on a small window may have a signal penetration capability of less than one-third of that of a conventional building.
- Superposition of Environmental Factors: If the house is located in a remote area (far from communication base stations), surrounded by tall buildings or dense forests that block the signal, the already weak signal reception is exacerbated by the shielding effect of the metal shell, leading to a further decrease in signal strength.
Targeted Solutions
Passive Enhancement Solutions:
- Signal Window Excavation: Excavate wave-transparent windows in non-load-bearing areas of the container body (ensuring structural strength). For example, the glass curtain wall container house by Shanghai Tangcheng reduces signal attenuation by reserving wave-transparent areas.
- Increase Non-metallic Materials: During customization, expand the window area or use non-metallic materials such as insulated composite panels for non-load-bearing walls to reduce the shielding of electromagnetic waves.
Active Enhancement Equipment:
- Signal Amplifiers: Install 4G/WiFi signal amplifiers (recommended output power ≤20dBm). For example, the container house by Sichuan Kafeng Technology is pre-installed with communication equipment brackets to directionally enhance specific frequency band signals.
- WiFi Coverage System: Deploy multiple wireless access points (APs) or Mesh WiFi networks to cover multiple points and compensate for signal blind spots, suitable for scenarios where multiple people use the network simultaneously.
- Signal Repeater Equipment: Receive external signals, reprocess them, and amplify and forward them, suitable for areas far from base stations.
Optimize Network Access:
- Introduce Wired Broadband: Prioritize connecting optical fiber/network cables to the interior of the container house and connect to a high-performance router to provide a stable basic network.
- Adjust Antenna Direction: Choose antennas that support multiple frequency bands or optimize signal reception efficiency by rotating the antenna angle.
Other Auxiliary Measures:
- Adjust House Position or Interior Layout: Avoid placing metal furniture near signal reception areas to reduce internal reflection interference.
- Optimize Mobile Phone Settings: Restart the device, switch network modes (e.g., GSM only), search for other operator networks, or check the SIM card contact. If necessary, replace the card or restore to factory settings.
It is recommended to use a professional field strength meter (such as the Agilent N9342C) to test the actual signal strength at multiple points inside the container to quantify the problem and verify the improvement effect.
