Container House Loading and Unloading

Admin September 16, 2026

The loading and unloading of container houses mainly involve loading and unloading methods, operational key points, and the selection of transportation tools. It is necessary to adopt vertical or horizontal loading and unloading methods according to the scenario, and cooperate with professional equipment and standardized operations.

Loading and Unloading Methods

The loading and unloading of container houses are mainly divided into vertical loading and unloading methods and horizontal loading and unloading methods.
The vertical loading and unloading method relies on lifting machinery, such as quayside container cranes and rubber-tired gantry cranes, to directly lift or place containers using lifting appliances. This method is suitable for dedicated container terminals or freight yards and can efficiently complete the transfer of containers between ships and freight yards.
The horizontal loading and unloading method adopts a roll-on/roll-off mode, placing containers on chassis trailers and using tractor trucks to tow the trailers via ramps into the ship's hold or terminal freight yard. This method does not require lifting equipment and is suitable for container transshipment between ports and stations, especially for scenarios with high loading and unloading efficiency requirements.

Operational Key Points

  1. Preparation before Loading
It is necessary to check the safe distance of the cargo, ensuring that the cargo stacked on both sides of the line is no less than 1.5 meters from the outer side of the rail head and that the cargo stacked on the platform is no less than 1 meter from the edge. At the same time, verify the information on the waybill, container, and vehicle, confirm the status of the vehicle's container locking device or the binding status between the container's bottom corner fittings and the vehicle, and install protective signals.
  2. Loading Operations
When supervising the loading on-site, it is necessary to verify the container information to ensure that the waybill and the container match. Record information such as the operation time and the time of removing the protective signs through the production information system to ensure the traceability of the loading process.
  3. Unloading Operations
Taking a container self-unloading semi-trailer as an example, it is necessary to select a solid and flat unloading location, park the vehicle steadily, and then check the carriage and hydraulic system. After starting the engine, slowly raise the carriage and control the speed at which the cargo slides off to avoid damaging the carriage or affecting safety due to inertial impact. If on a sloped road surface, adjust the lifting sequence according to the orientation of the vehicle's head; on soft ground, evaluate the load-bearing capacity and, if necessary, lay wooden planks to increase the support area.

Selection of Transportation Tools

When transporting container houses, it is necessary to select appropriate tools according to the nature of the cargo and the transportation distance.
For short-distance transportation (within 300 kilometers), a tilting truck can be selected, which uses its tilting function to directly slide off the container without additional equipment; for long-distance transportation (more than 300 kilometers), a flatbed truck or a semi-trailer with a chassis is recommended. The former is cost-effective, while the latter fixes the container with a locking box to ensure transportation safety. If transporting high containers, a low-bed transportation vehicle should be used, as its stepped design can stably carry oversized cargo.
