Container House Length, Width, and Height

Admin September 13, 2026

Common length, width, and height dimensions of container houses vary by type and use, as follows:

1. Standard single-unit size Length is typically 6 meters, width 3 meters, and height ranges from 2.7 to 2.8 meters, with an interior area of about 18 square meters. This size suits ordinary living or office use and is one of the most common specifications for container houses.

2. International shipping standard containers

  • 20-foot standard container (20GP): Exterior dimensions are 6.058 m long, 2.438 m wide, and 2.591 m high, mainly used for international shipping and temporary storage.
  • 40-foot standard container (40GP): Exterior dimensions are 12.192 m long, 2.438 m wide, and 2.591 m high, suitable for scenarios that need more space, such as temporary site offices or large warehouses.
  • 40-foot high cube (40HC/HQ): Exterior dimensions are 12.192 m long, 2.438 m wide, and 2.896 m high; the added height increases interior volume and is often used to transport or store taller cargo.

3. Small and large container houses

  • Small container house: Dimensions are 3 m × 3 m, about 9 square meters, often used as a guard room, temporary warehouse, or small tool room.
  • Large container house: Length can reach 7 meters and width 3 meters; these are often formed by stacking two stories or adding corridor designs to create office areas or mixed-use spaces for more complex needs.

4. Foldable and mini container houses

  • Foldable container house: Length 6 meters, height 2.59 meters; folds for easier transport and storage, suited to temporary or highly mobile uses.
  • 10-foot mini container: Exterior dimensions are 3.048 m long, 2.438 m wide, and 2.591 m high, with an interior area of about 7 square meters, suitable for temporary living or small equipment storage where space is limited.

5. Other special specifications

  • 30-foot container house: Exterior dimensions are about 9.144 m long, 2.438 m wide, and 2.591 m high, between the 20-foot and 40-foot standard containers, offering a more flexible space option.

Custom adjustments Container house dimensions are not completely fixed and can be customized based on use needs (such as occupancy and functional zoning) and structural safety requirements. For example, length, width, or height can be adjusted by cutting, welding, or joining units, or doors, windows, and partitions can be added to suit specific scenarios.
