Container House Internal Dimensions
Admin September 15, 2026
The internal dimensions of container houses vary depending on the type and customization requirements. Here are the common internal dimension ranges:

I. Standard Shipping Container Houses
- 20-foot Standard Container (20GP): The internal dimensions are 5867mm in length, 2330mm in width, and 2350mm in height, with a volume of approximately 33 cubic meters. These houses are mostly used for single-person offices, dormitories, or shops, offering compact space but complete functionality.
- 40-foot Standard Container (40GP): The internal dimensions are 11998mm in length, 2330mm in width, and 2350mm in height, with a volume of approximately 67 cubic meters. They are suitable for dividing into multi-functional spaces or multi-person dormitories, with high space utilization.
- 40-foot High Cube Container (40HQ): The internal dimensions are 11998mm in length, 2330mm in width, and 2655mm in height, with a volume of approximately 76 cubic meters. Due to the increased height, they are often used in scenarios requiring higher ceiling heights, such as exhibition halls or residences.
II. Non-standard Customized Container Houses
- Regular Dimensions:
- 3m in length × 3m in width × 2.8m in height: With an area of 9 square meters, suitable for guard posts or small warehouses.
- 6m in length × 3m in width × 2.8m in height: With an area of 18 square meters, a common standard size on construction sites, accommodating 10 people for residence or serving as kitchens or toilets.
- 7m in length × 3m in width × 2.8m in height: With an area of 21 square meters, mostly used for two-story container mobile houses, with added corridors and canopies.
- Flexible Dimension Adjustments:
- Width options include 2.5m, 2.55m, 3m, 4m, etc.
- Height options include 2.6m, 2.7m, 2.8m, 2.9m, etc.
- Length can be extended according to needs, such as 3m×6m, 3m×8m, 3m×12m, etc.
III. Special Functional Modules Some suppliers offer functional houses such as shower modules, toilet modules, and conference room modules. The internal dimensions are designed according to specific needs and support free combination to adapt to different scenarios.
IV. Dimension Selection Recommendations
- Space Requirements: Determine the area based on the number of occupants or office workers. For example, a 3m×6m size can accommodate a double bed, desk, and wardrobe, suitable for 1-2 people to live in.
- Transportation Restrictions: Standard container dimensions must comply with road transportation requirements, and non-standard dimensions must be confirmed in advance for lifting and transportation feasibility.
- Functional Expansion: If additional partitions, doors, windows, or decorations are required, extra space should be reserved to ensure comfort of use.
