Container House Homestay Design
The design of container house homestays requires comprehensive consideration of factors such as structural performance, space utilization, functional suitability, appearance style, and environmental protection and energy efficiency.

In terms of structural performance, it is essential to ensure safety under extreme conditions. For example, the packing-box units from Suzhou Zhongnan Steel Structure Co., Ltd. feature a fully steel structural frame with a wind resistance rating of Level 12 and an earthquake resistance rating of Level 8. The frame deformation rate is only 0.18%, significantly lower than the industry's acceptable threshold of 0.3%. In design, priority should be given to structural forms with excellent wind and earthquake resistance, along with strict control over material quality and construction techniques to ensure the stability of the homestay under adverse weather and geological conditions.
Regarding space utilization, the fixed dimensions of containers require designers to adopt functional overlapping strategies. For instance, compressing the kitchen and bathroom into one end of the container to form a wet area, using integrated bathroom technology for waterproofing; achieving day-night functional switching in the living and sleeping areas through furniture adaptability, such as wall-mounted folding tables that can be retracted into the wall during non-meal times and drop-down beds that free up activity space when folded up. Additionally, space can be expanded through methods like connecting multiple containers, stacking them vertically, or combining them horizontally to meet various accommodation needs.
From the perspective of functional suitability, targeted designs are needed based on different scenarios. For homestays in scenic areas, it is important to enhance lighting design, such as installing full-length floor-to-ceiling glass; ensure sound insulation by using double-layer rock wool + hollow glass; and focus on landscape integration by incorporating rotatable balcony modules.
In terms of appearance style, the rugged lines and metallic texture of containers can be retained, blending into the surrounding environment through color coordination and spatial layout. For example, using a primary color palette of black, white, and gray, along with a staggered layout to increase visual impact and spatial hierarchy, and incorporating green landscaping to achieve harmony between architecture and nature.
Regarding environmental protection and energy efficiency, recyclable insulation materials can be used, along with the installation of solar panels and rainwater harvesting systems for self-sufficiency in energy. Herbs and succulents can also be planted in rooftop gardens.
