Container House Height

Admin September 10, 2026

Container-house height varies by type and use; common heights range from 2.197 m to 2.8 m. They fall into these categories:

1. Standard container houses Exterior height is usually 8.5 ft (about 2.59 m), the international exterior standard. Interior height varies slightly by length:

  • 20-ft standard container: Interior height about 2.393 m, suited to general cargo or temporary living.
  • 40-ft standard container: Interior height about 2.392 m, similar to the 20-ft unit but double the length and larger volume. Interior height balances structural strength and transport convenience, so heights stay relatively uniform.

2. Refrigerated container houses Because of refrigeration equipment, interior height varies by model. Common values include:

  • 2.260 m: For cold transport with lower space demand.
  • 2.197 m: Interior height of some compact reefers, optimizing cooling efficiency.
  • 2.500 m: Interior height of some premium reefers, with more stacking space. Design balances equipment footprint and cargo storage.

3. Common China construction-site container houses Often based on standard containers but raised for living comfort. A common height is 2.8 m, about 0.4 m above standard interior height. This mainly:

  • Improves spatial feel and reduces a cramped sensation.
  • Eases installing ceilings, lighting, and fixtures.
  • Fits special temporary-housing needs on domestic sites.

Summary Choose height by use: standard units are uniform for transport and temporary use; reefer heights vary with cooling needs; site units raise height for better living. Users can pick the type that fits the scenario.
