Container House Foundation

Admin September 15, 2026

The foundation of a container house should be comprehensively designed based on the house type, usage scenario, and geological conditions. Common foundation types include concrete strip foundations, ground screw foundations, precast pad foundations, and in some cases, the house can be directly placed on a flat ground. Details are as follows:

1. Concrete Strip Foundation
Suitable for container houses that are permanently fixed, such as construction site command centers and long-term on-site offices. The recommended foundation width is between 30 cm and 50 cm, and the depth should be determined according to the local frost depth to ensure that the top surface of the foundation is level, with a height difference of no more than 5 mm. For example, when installing residential container houses in the Yiqi area, a concrete strip foundation needs to be poured to evenly distribute the load of the container, avoiding uneven settlement caused by soft ground and preventing deformation of doors and windows or cracks in the walls.

2. Ground Screw Foundation
Suitable for scenarios with good geological conditions where deep anchoring is not required. Ground screws are screwed into the soil to provide stable anchoring force, and they are easy to install and can be reused. For example, some temporary container houses use ground screws as foundations, which not only meet the structural stability requirements but also shorten the construction period.

3. Precast Concrete Pads or Steel Plates
Suitable for short-term use or scenarios with low requirements for ground damage. The spacing between pads should not exceed 2 meters, and a crushed stone leveling layer should be laid underneath to ensure that the force points are on the same horizontal plane. For example, folding container houses and fixed residential container houses have relatively low foundation requirements and can be directly placed on a flat ground. If possible, a cement ground can be poured and drainage ditches can be set up to improve living comfort.

4. Direct Placement on a Flat Ground
Some container houses have extremely low foundation requirements. For example, packing container houses can be placed directly on the ground without a special foundation; folding container houses only require the ground to be leveled. However, it should be noted that in such scenarios, the stability of the container should be regularly checked to avoid structural problems caused by ground settlement.
