Thin Floor of Container House
Admin September 15, 2026
If the floor of the container house is too thin, the following methods can be used to solve the problem:

I. Structural Reinforcement
- Add Underfloor Supports: Install steel beams or channel steels as secondary beams beneath the existing floor. Fix them to the main frame of the container through welding or bolts to form a composite support system. For example, evenly arrange 5×10mm channel steels along the longitudinal direction of the floor with a spacing of no more than 60cm, which can effectively disperse the load and enhance the overall stiffness.
- Lay Reinforcement Layers: Overlay high-strength material layers on the surface of the existing floor, such as plywood or steel plates with a thickness of more than 12mm. The steel plates should be treated for rust prevention and fixed to the original floor with self-tapping screws at intervals of no more than 30cm to ensure coordinated force-bearing between the layers.
II. Material Replacement
- Replace with Composite Flooring: Remove the original thin floor and replace it with composite flooring with reinforcing ribs. Such flooring is usually composed of upper and lower steel plates sandwiching polyurethane or rock wool core materials, with a thickness of more than 40mm, providing both load-bearing and thermal insulation properties.
- Use Cast-in-Place Concrete Layers: Set up formwork inside the container and pour fine aggregate concrete with a strength grade of C20 or higher. The recommended thickness is no less than 80mm. Embed steel mesh (with a diameter of 6mm and a spacing of 200mm) to enhance crack resistance. The concrete needs to be cured for 28 days before it can bear loads.
III. Professional Inspection and Compliant Modification
- Load-Bearing Test: According to the ISO 1496 standard, use a forklift to conduct a uniformly distributed load test on the floor. The floor of a 20-foot container should be able to withstand a load of 14,000kg. If the floor deformation exceeds L/250 (L is the span) during the test, immediate reinforcement is required.
- Connector Inspection: Focus on inspecting the welding points or bolt connections between the floor and the container's bottom beams. If the rust area exceeds 10% or the bolt loosening rate exceeds 20%, perform repair welding or replace with high-strength bolts (grade no lower than 8.8).
IV. Preventive Measures
- Load Management: Mark the maximum allowable load (usually no more than 250kg/m²) on the floor surface to avoid concentrated stacking of heavy objects.
- Regular Maintenance: Check the floor for rust every six months. For areas with a rust depth of more than 0.5mm, grind off the rust and apply two coats of epoxy zinc-rich primer.
