Container House Fire Safety

Admin September 15, 2026

The fire safety of container houses requires comprehensive protection from multiple aspects such as material selection, electrical specifications, and daily management.

I. Material Fire Rating as the Foundation The wall and roof materials of container houses directly affect their fire performance. Grade A fire-resistant rock wool sandwich panels should be selected. These materials are high-temperature resistant and have strong flame-retardant properties, meeting national fire protection standards. For example, the products of Weifang Jinruiyuan Steel Structure Co., Ltd. use Grade A/B1 fire-resistant rock wool sandwich panels, which can effectively delay the spread of fire. Avoid using flammable materials such as polystyrene and polyurethane foam. These materials will melt and drip at 80°C, triggering secondary combustion and producing a large amount of toxic smoke during combustion, increasing the difficulty of escape.

II. Electrical Wiring Requires Standard Installation Electrical failures are a common cause of fires in container houses. Electrical wires and cables should be equipped with protective sleeves to avoid direct contact with metal frames. Socket and switch boxes should use metal galvanized boxes and be surface-mounted to prevent short circuits from causing fires. For example, the container fire in Langfang City in 2020 was caused by an electrical circuit failure in the switch igniting weeds. In addition, it is prohibited to privately connect wires or mix high-power electrical appliances. If heating stoves or other heat sources need to be set up, fire protection equipment must be equipped and a safe distance must be maintained.

III. Strict Daily Use and Management

  1. Open Flame Control: It is strictly prohibited to carry out open flame operations such as electric welding and gas welding inside container houses. Activities such as barbecues and fireworks should also be kept away from the houses.
  2. Fire Protection Facility Equipment: Simple fire extinguishing equipment should be configured indoors and outdoors. If possible, fire alarms can be installed to ensure that personnel can evacuate in a timely manner.
  3. Safe Distance: There should be at least a 6-meter spacing between container houses to prevent the spread of fire. For example, in the container fire in Linping District, Hangzhou, the dense housing led to the rapid spread of the fire.
  4. Regular Inspections: Regularly maintain electrical wiring and fire protection equipment, and promptly replace aging components to avoid the accumulation of hidden dangers.

IV. Targeted Protection for Special Scenarios In scenarios such as post-disaster reconstruction or construction site dormitories, the fire protection of container houses needs to be combined with environmental characteristics. For example, in earthquake-stricken areas, houses with strong wind and earthquake resistance should be selected, and escape routes should be kept clear. In construction site dormitories, the use of bottled gas should be avoided to prevent gas leaks from causing explosions.
