Handling of Container House Fires

Admin September 15, 2026

After a container house catches fire, immediate measures such as reporting the fire, extinguishing it, evacuating people, and protecting the scene should be taken, and targeted handling should be carried out according to different causes of the fire.

Immediate Reporting and Emergency Response Activation

Upon discovering a fire in a container house, call the 119 fire emergency number immediately and clearly report key information such as the location of the fire, the size of the fire, and whether there are people trapped. At the same time, if in a crowded place or construction site, immediately activate the internal emergency plan, notify relevant personnel to evacuate, and use broadcasts, alarms, etc., to remind people in the vicinity to leave.

Initial Fire Extinguishment

Under the premise of ensuring one's own safety, choose an appropriate fire-extinguishing method according to the type of fire source:

  • Electrical fires: If the fire involves wires or electrical appliances, first cut off the power supply, and then use a dry powder fire extinguisher or a carbon dioxide fire extinguisher to fight the fire. Avoid using water to prevent electric shock.
  • Ordinary combustible fires: For materials such as wood, paper, and cloth, a water-based fire extinguisher or water can be used. However, note that if the container house has a color-steel plate structure and contains an insulation layer (such as polystyrene) inside, toxic smoke will be produced during combustion, and a gas mask should be worn.
  • Dangerous goods fires: If the container stores flammable and explosive items (such as tert-butyl peroxybenzoate), immediately evacuate the scene and leave it to professional firefighters. Do not fight the fire blindly.

Evacuation and Rescue

  • Guide personnel evacuation: Organize people to evacuate in an orderly manner through safe exits to avoid crowding and trampling. If the fire blocks the exits, use windows, balconies, etc., to escape, or cover your mouth and nose with a wet towel and move forward in a low posture.
  • Rescue trapped personnel: If there are people trapped, use stretchers, ropes, and other tools for rescue under the guidance of firefighters. Avoid entering the fire scene blindly.

Scene Protection and Follow-up Handling

  • Isolate the fire scene: After the fire is extinguished, set up a cordon and prohibit unrelated personnel from entering to prevent reignition or secondary disasters.
  • Investigate the cause of the fire: Cooperate with the fire department in the investigation to analyze whether it was due to electrical faults, improper use of open flames (such as mosquito coils igniting clothing), improper management of dangerous goods (such as self-decomposition at high temperatures), or other reasons, so as to carry out targeted rectification.
  • Repair and reconstruction: Conduct a safety assessment of the damaged container house. If the structure is damaged, it needs to be repaired or replaced, and fire prevention measures should be strengthened (such as installing smoke alarms and equipping with fire extinguishers).
