Container House Export Volume

Admin September 15, 2026

In the first half of 2026, China's total export value of container houses reached US$2.79 billion, a year-on-year increase of 45%, but specific export volume data was not found. Here is a detailed analysis:

Total Export Value and Growth Trend
According to public information from the General Administration of Customs, in the first half of 2026, China's total export value of prefabricated buildings under HS code 9406 (including container house types such as steel-structured modular houses) reached US$2.79 billion, up from US$1.93 billion in the same period last year, representing a 45% increase. This data indicates that container houses, as a core category of modular buildings, have maintained rapid growth in overseas market demand and have become a new growth point for China's foreign trade.

Export Product Structure and Main Categories
Steel-structured modular houses are the main export products, accounting for over 60% of the order structure of leading manufacturers. These products have multiple reuse capabilities, cross-border export qualifications, and low-carbon attributes, meeting the needs of overseas engineering camps, cultural tourism, emergency response, and other fields for recycling and compliance. For example, the container house project exported by Changshu Yazhi Modular Construction Co., Ltd. to the Maldives consisted of a total of 531 modules with a building area of 13,200 square meters, used for local tourism construction projects.

Export Markets and Regional Distribution
Container house exports cover more than 150 countries and regions worldwide. The Shenzhen port, as a major export channel, saw the export value of movable houses reach 1.68 billion yuan in the first four months of this year, a year-on-year increase of 19.6%. The main products include movable houses made of other materials and steel-structured modular building units. In addition, manufacturers in Hebei, Anhui, and other places are also expanding overseas markets through bulk customization models, with products suitable for overseas infrastructure, cultural tourism, emergency response, and other scenarios.

Technical Advantages and Cost-Effectiveness
Modular container houses, through factory prefabrication and dry construction methods, shorten the traditional construction period by more than 60%, reduce steel consumption to 3%-5% (compared to 8%-12% on traditional construction sites), and reduce the consumption of basic building materials by 60%-70%. For example, the 63 modular elderly care apartment modules purchased by a British merchant were shipped from China to the UK and completed on-site hoisting in just two weeks, with the overall delivery period shortened by more than 50% compared to traditional construction.
