Expansion Screws for Container Houses

Admin September 15, 2026

Galvanized or stainless steel expansion screws are commonly used in the installation of container houses. The specifications are selected based on the wall material and load-bearing requirements, ensuring that the expansion tube fits tightly against the wall to provide reliable tension.

I. Types and Materials of Expansion Screws

Expansion screws are key components for securing structures in container house installations, primarily available in galvanized and stainless steel materials.

  • Galvanized Expansion Screws: These screws are surface-treated with galvanization, providing rust resistance. They are suitable for general environments and are relatively inexpensive, making them a common choice for container house installations.
  • Stainless Steel Expansion Screws: Such as 304 stainless steel, these screws offer strong corrosion resistance and are suitable for humid or coastal environments, although they are more expensive.

II. Specification Selection and Wall Matching

The specifications of expansion screws (e.g., M6, M8, M10) need to be determined based on the wall material and load-bearing requirements:

  • Solid Brick/Concrete Walls: Ordinary expansion screws can meet the requirements, with a wide range of specification options.
  • Gypsum Board/Hollow Brick/Foam Brick: Special expansion screws are required, such as those designed with a double-expansion principle or made of softer materials, to ensure that the expansion tube fits tightly against the loose wall, forming an effective mechanical lock.

III. Installation Points and Precautions

  • Drilling Size: The drilling diameter must match the specification of the expansion screw. For example, an M6 screw typically requires a 10mm hole diameter to prevent the expansion tube from failing to expand fully due to an oversized hole.
  • Tightening Force: When tightening the screw, ensure that the expansion tube is fully expanded and fits tightly against the hole wall, but avoid excessive force that could cause the wall to crack.
  • Load-Bearing Verification: After installation, verify the load-bearing capacity of the fixed points to ensure they meet the usage requirements of the container house.

IV. Quality and Safety Considerations

Poor-quality expansion screws may have issues such as thin metal tube walls and shallow serrations, resulting in insufficient contact area with the wall after expansion. Over time, under heavy loads, they may rust, deform, or even pose safety hazards. Therefore, choosing reliable-quality expansion screws not only solves the problem of 'hanging securely' but also invests in the safety and long-term user experience of the home.
