Installation of Electric Meters in Container Houses
Admin September 15, 2026
The installation of electric meters in container houses must be carried out by the power supply department. Users are not allowed to install them privately and must apply through formal procedures and have them operated by professionals. Specific instructions are as follows:

I. Installation Entities and Procedures
- Application for Installation: Users need to submit an application for new installation or capacity expansion to the local power supply company (such as State Grid or China Southern Power Grid) and provide necessary documents such as property ownership certificates and identification.
- On-site Inspection: The power supply company sends professionals to conduct an on-site inspection to determine the power supply plan, meter capacity, and installation location.
- Standardized Installation: Professional electricians from the power supply department carry out the installation work, including power outage, wiring, fixation, and power-on inspection.
II. Installation Specifications and Requirements
- Installation Location: Electric meters are usually installed inside electric meter boxes. The location should be convenient for meter reading, inspection, and maintenance, and avoid damp, flammable, explosive, strong magnetic field interference, and vibration-prone areas.
- Installation Height: The bottom edge of the meter box should be 1.6 meters to 2.0 meters above the ground.
- Wiring Standards: Wiring must strictly comply with national standards to ensure that the "incoming live wire, outgoing live wire, incoming neutral wire, and outgoing neutral wire" are correct. All wiring terminals must be securely fastened and have good contact.
- Safety Measures: A main disconnect switch or fuse must be installed on the incoming side (front end) of the electric meter for cutting off the power supply during maintenance. On the outgoing side (rear end) of the electric meter, there should be a main air switch (with leakage protection function) for the electricity-using unit.
III. User Precautions
- Cooperation: Users need to cooperate by providing installation conditions such as the location of the meter box and power access points.
- Confirmation of Lead Seal: After installation, users must confirm that the electric meter has an intact lead seal from the power supply department. The lead seal is a symbol of the meter's legality, and damaging it is illegal.
- Problem Identification: If any abnormalities are found in the operation of the electric meter (such as not rotating, spinning rapidly, smoking, etc.), users should immediately turn off the main switch and contact the power supply department for handling. Do not disassemble it yourself.
