Dimensions of Container Houses
The dimensions of container houses vary depending on their type, purpose, and customization requirements. Common specifications include standard sizes, foreign trade sizes, and non-standard customized sizes, as detailed below:

I. Standard Container House Dimensions
- Domestic General Standard: Length 6 meters, width 3 meters, height 2.9 meters, with an internal area of approximately 18 square meters. This size is widely used in construction site dormitories, temporary offices, medical and epidemic prevention scenarios, etc. Due to its moderate space and stable structure, it has become a mainstream choice in the market.
- International Standard (20-foot/40-foot):
- 20-foot standard container: External dimensions are length 6.058 meters, width 2.438 meters, height 2.591 meters; internal net dimensions are length 5.867 meters, width 2.33 meters, height 2.35 meters, with an area of approximately 13.7 square meters. It is suitable for single-person offices, shops, or small dormitories.
- 40-foot standard container: External dimensions are length 12.192 meters, width 2.438 meters, height 2.591 meters; internal net dimensions are length 11.998 meters, width 2.33 meters, height 2.35 meters, with an area of approximately 27.9 square meters. It can be divided into multi-functional spaces or multi-person dormitories.
- 40-foot high cube container: The external height is increased to 2.896 meters, and the internal net height is 2.655 meters. It is suitable for exhibition halls or housing with height requirements.
II. Foreign Trade and Special-Purpose Sizes
The size range of foreign trade container houses is wider, from length 5.8 meters, width 2.2 meters to length 11.5 meters, width 2.2 meters, corresponding to 20-foot and 40-foot models, with areas of approximately 12.98 square meters and 25.96 square meters, respectively. These sizes need to balance international transportation standards with usage flexibility. For example, double-wing expandable containers are collapsed to 20-foot specifications during transportation and can expand to an indoor area of 36 square meters after deployment, meeting the dual needs of overseas projects for transportation efficiency and actual usable area.
III. Non-Standard Customized Sizes
According to customer needs, container houses can flexibly adjust the length, width, and height parameters:
- Length: Options include 3 meters, 6 meters, 9 meters, 12 meters, etc., supporting modular assembly to expand space.
- Width: Common widths are 2.5 meters, 3 meters, 4 meters, etc., to adapt to different site constraints.
- Height: Ranges from 2.6 meters to 2.9 meters, meeting height requirements or special equipment installation needs.
For example, a two-story container mobile house on a construction site adopts specifications of length 7 meters, width 3 meters, and height 2.8 meters, with added corridor and canopy designs; foldable container mobile houses offer standard 20/40-foot sizes and non-standard customization options to adapt to scenarios such as temporary housing and offices.
