Container House Dimensions

Admin September 10, 2026

Container house dimensions vary by type and use; common specs include site-common, international standard, and custom types, as follows:

1. Site-common types

  • 3 m × 3 m × 2.8 m: About 9㎡—a small container house usually used as a site guard room, temporary duty room, or small storage. Compact interior can house about 2 people, suited to short-term, small-scope scenes.
  • 6 m × 3 m × 2.8 m: About 18㎡—the most common site container house size. Interior can hold about 10 people, often as worker dormitories, or remodeled into temporary toilets, kitchens, or offices. Supports two-story expansion by stacking to add living area.
  • 7 m × 3 m × 2.8 m: One meter longer than the 6 m size, mainly used as the second-story structure of two-story site portable container houses. It adds a corridor and canopy beyond the original space for easier passage and rain cover, while indoor living area matches the 6 m type; it can also serve as a standalone unit.

2. International standard types

  • 20-ft container: Length about 6.1 m, width about 2.44 m, height about 2.59 m, interior volume about 33 m³. Meets international shipping standards; often used for cross-border logistics and can be remodeled into temporary housing or offices, but height is slightly lower than site-common types (2.8 m), which may affect living comfort.
  • 40-ft container: Length about 12.2 m, width about 2.44 m, height about 2.59 m, interior volume about 67 m³. Twice the length of the 20-ft type, suited to larger-space needs such as multi-person dormitories, meeting rooms, or storage, with higher remodeling flexibility.

3. Custom types Per client needs, length, width, and height can exceed standard limits. For example, a common domestic site custom size is 6 m × 3 m × 2.8 m (18㎡), but units can expand further or use special shapes for exhibition halls, medical stations, and similar functions. Custom styles are diverse but usually cost more than standard types.
