Container House Cost

Admin September 15, 2026

The cost of container houses varies due to multiple factors, generally ranging from several thousand yuan to tens of thousands of yuan per unit, with a cost per square meter of approximately 400 yuan to 500 yuan or more. Here is a detailed analysis of the cost of container houses:

I. Basic Costs

  • Second-hand container houses: In some areas, such as around Xi'an, the price of a standard 6-meter second-hand iron-sheet cargo container used as a residential container house may range from 7,000 yuan to 6,500 yuan per unit (with lower prices for orders of 100 or more). In Chongqing, there is also a supply of 6-meter second-hand containers, with prices ranging from 1,500 yuan to 1,300 yuan per unit (with lower prices for orders of 100 or more). However, these lower-priced containers may differ in specifications, materials, or degree of newness.
  • New container houses: The price of container houses used by workers at construction sites in Shaoxing ranges from 8,000 yuan to 10,000 yuan, usually including basic materials and structures such as color-steel wall panels and welded steel frames made of channel steel and square steel.

II. Factors Affecting Costs

  • Materials: The materials used in the house determine its quality and future service life. For example, different materials such as steel structure + corrugated board and double-sided color-steel plate covered with rock wool sandwich composite board will result in different costs.
  • Degree of interior decoration: The level of luxury in interior decoration also affects the cost. Simple decoration may only include basic partitions, lighting, and ventilation facilities, while luxury decoration may include flooring, wall decorations, furniture, etc.
  • Purchase location and supplier: Prices may vary in different regions and among different suppliers. Some areas may have relatively lower or higher prices due to factors such as logistics costs and market competition.
  • Specifications and size: The specifications and size of the container house also affect the cost. Generally, container houses with larger areas and more complex structures have higher costs.
