Common Dimensions of Container Houses

Admin September 17, 2026

The common dimensions of container houses are primarily based on international standard container specifications. The following are common types and their dimensions:

1. Standard-sized Container Houses

  • 20-foot Standard Container (20GP): External dimensions are 6.058 meters (length) × 2.438 meters (width) × 2.591 meters (height), with internal dimensions approximately 5.898 meters × 2.352 meters × 2.393 meters. This is the most commonly used basic model, suitable for independent use or combined construction, often seen in construction site dormitories, small shops, or temporary offices. Its internal space is compact, accommodating 4-6 people for living or serving as a single-function space.
  • 40-foot Standard Container (40GP): External dimensions are 12.192 meters × 2.438 meters × 2.591 meters, with internal dimensions approximately 12.032 meters × 2.352 meters × 2.393 meters. Its length is twice that of the 20GP, providing more spacious accommodation, suitable for scenarios requiring a long, narrow layout, such as corridor-style dormitories, multi-room combined residences, or small office areas.
  • 40-foot High Cube Container (40HC/HQ): External dimensions are 12.192 meters × 2.438 meters × 2.896 meters, with internal dimensions approximately 12.032 meters × 2.352 meters × 2.698 meters. Its height is 30 centimeters more than that of the standard container, with an internal clear height of up to 2.7 meters, suitable for scenarios with height requirements, such as residences, exhibition halls, or spaces requiring ceiling-mounted equipment.

2. Non-standard-sized Container Houses

  • 10-foot Mini Container: External dimensions are approximately 3.048 meters × 2.438 meters × 2.591 meters, compact in size, often used as a study, workshop, or equipment room, suitable for scenarios with limited space.
  • 30-foot Container: External dimensions are approximately 9.144 meters × 2.438 meters × 2.591 meters, falling between the 20-foot and 40-foot containers, suitable for scenarios requiring a certain amount of space but not wanting to be overly large, such as small shops or temporary office areas.
  • Small Container House: Dimensions are 3 meters × 3 meters, with an area of approximately 9 square meters, often used as a guard room, temporary warehouse, or single-person rest area.
  • Large Container House: Dimensions are 7 meters × 3 meters, often used for two-story combined houses or office areas with corridors, with the ability to expand the usable area through combination.

3. Custom-sized Container Houses
According to customer needs, the length, width, and height can be customized. Common custom widths range from 3 meters to 6 meters, and heights range from 2.5 meters to 3.5 meters. Such houses are suitable for special-need venues, such as temporary hospitals, schools, or commercial shops, and can achieve flexible layouts through modular design.
