Container House Balcony Design Drawing

Admin September 17, 2026

Currently, there are no direct design drawings for container house balconies, but the following design ideas can be referenced for planning:

I. Design Features of Container Balconies In foreign cases, container balconies often adopt an "extended" structure, where single or multiple container modules extend outward from the exterior wall of the house, forming an independent balcony space. The core features include:

  1. Color and Form: The surface of containers can be painted in vibrant colors (such as bright yellow or lake blue) to contrast with the main building. By cutting and splicing container modules, balconies of varying lengths and staggered shapes can be designed to enhance visual layering.
  2. Lighting Optimization: Glass materials (such as floor-to-ceiling windows or glass roofs) can be used to replace parts of the container walls, improving natural lighting efficiency on the balcony while maintaining structural stability. For example, embedding a full glass curtain wall on the side of the container or covering the balcony roof with tempered glass creates a semi-open space.
  3. Functional Versatility: The balcony can serve multiple purposes, including leisure, storage, or plant cultivation. For instance, hidden storage cabinets can be installed inside the container, or flower boxes can be hung along the balcony edge to create a vertical green belt.

II. Design Adaptation Ideas for Container House Balconies Drawing from the case of transforming a 12-meter container into a 30㎡ villa, its double-layer rooftop terrace design can be adapted for balcony planning:

  1. Spatial Extension: Using the container as the main structure, extend 1-2 standard container modules (6 meters long and 2.4 meters wide) outward to form an L-shaped or U-shaped balcony layout, increasing usable area. The extended part can be connected to the main structure via steel frames to ensure stability.
  2. Integration of Leisure Facilities: Install a retractable sunshade or wooden pavilion on the top level of the balcony, paired with outdoor furniture (such as wicker sofas and coffee tables), to create a leisure area for weekend tea-tasting and sightseeing. If space allows, a small pool (about 0.5 meters deep) can be embedded for foot soaking in summer or housing aquatic plants, enhancing environmental comfort.
  3. Safety and Privacy: Install glass guardrails or metal railings with a height of no less than 1.2 meters along the balcony edge to prevent falls. For privacy protection, electric roller blinds or bamboo blinds can be added outside the glass, balancing lighting and seclusion.

III. Design Considerations

  1. Structural Load-Bearing: The extended balcony must have its load calculated by a professional engineer to ensure that the weight of the container and additional structures (such as pools or plants) does not exceed the foundation's load-bearing capacity.
  2. Waterproofing: Waterproof membranes must be laid on the balcony floor, and sealant applied at container joints to prevent rainwater leakage. If a pool is installed, a separate waterproof layer and drainage system must be provided.
  3. Compliance: Before designing, local building codes must be confirmed to ensure that the balcony's height, area, and structure comply with safety standards and avoid illegal modifications.
