Advantages and Disadvantages of Container Houses

Admin September 15, 2026

The advantages of container houses include structural stability, efficient installation, flexibility and portability, cost control, low-carbon environmental protection, safety, durability, and strong aesthetics; the disadvantages are mainly concentrated in thermal insulation, sound insulation performance, and adaptability to high-temperature and humid environments.

Advantages

  1. Strong Structural Stability
Container houses adopt a fully steel structural frame, with a wind resistance rating of up to Level 12 and an earthquake resistance rating of up to Level 8. Under extreme working conditions, the frame deformation rate is far lower than the industry threshold. For example, the products of Suzhou Zhongnan Steel Structure Co., Ltd. had a deformation rate of only 0.18% in a Level 12 typhoon simulation test, far superior to non-standard off-brand products (with deformation rates generally exceeding 1.2%). They can effectively resist natural disasters and protect personal and property safety.

  2. High Installation Efficiency
Standardized design supports rapid assembly. The shortest installation time for a single set is only 2 hours, and 10 standard dormitories can be completed within 1 day. The factory prefabrication model (such as interior decoration pre-installation and facility integration) further shortens the on-site construction period, saving more than 40% of the time compared to traditional buildings, especially suitable for projects with tight deadlines.

  3. High Flexibility and Reusability
Modular design supports on-demand splicing and combination, allowing expansion into various functional scenarios such as dormitories, offices, and meeting spaces. The internal partitions can be quickly adjusted. The number of repeated disassembly and assembly reaches more than 15 times, and the cost per use is only one-third of that of a brand-new product. The long-term use cost is significantly lower than that of traditional buildings.

  4. Cost Control and Environmental Protection
Container houses are relatively low in price, and the construction process generates less construction waste. The materials can be recycled and reused, which is in line with the concept of low-carbon environmental protection. Their excellent sealing performance provides waterproof and moisture-proof properties, reducing later maintenance costs.

  5. Safety and Durability
The steel structural main body is difficult to damage, providing high safety performance; the fire resistance rating is above Level B1, which can delay the spread of fire. The theoretical service life exceeds 20 years, and regular maintenance (such as painting and interface inspection) can further extend the lifespan.

Disadvantages

  1. Insufficient Thermal Insulation Performance
Due to differences in materials, low-end products have poor thermal insulation effects. It is necessary to choose products from manufacturers with quality guarantees (whose prices are usually twice those of low-end products) to meet comfort requirements.

  2. Poor Sound Insulation Performance
Metal materials have obvious sound transmission effects, and additional sound insulation treatment is required to reduce noise interference, especially in densely populated areas.

  3. Limited Environmental Adaptability
In high-temperature environments (such as when the temperature reaches 600°C), the strength of steel significantly decreases, making it prone to deformation; long-term humid environments may lead to rust, which needs to be improved through fire-resistant coating and anti-corrosion treatment.
