10-Meter Container House

Admin September 15, 2026

A 10-meter container house typically refers to a living space transformed or combined from standard shipping containers, and its design, cost, and applicability need to be comprehensively evaluated based on specific needs.

I. Common Specifications and Combination Methods of Container Houses

The external dimensions of standard shipping containers are usually 20 feet (about 6.1 meters) or 40 feet (about 12.2 meters), with relatively limited internal usable space. To meet living requirements, multiple containers are often joined or stacked to expand the space. For example, the living space of Mr. and Mrs. Lu is formed by joining two 6-meter × 3-meter containers, with a total area of about 36 square meters, creating functional areas including a living room, bedroom, and simple kitchen and bathroom. If a 10-meter-long house is required, it can be achieved by customizing non-standard containers or combining containers of different sizes, but attention should be paid to structural stability and transportation limitations.

II. Cost Composition of Container Houses

The cost of a container house includes the container itself, modification costs, and transportation and installation costs.

  • Container Purchase: The price of a standard 20-foot container is approximately 3,000-6,000 yuan, and that of a 40-foot container is about 6,000-12,000 yuan, depending on the material (such as steel or aluminum) and its condition.
  • Modification Costs: These include wall insulation, door and window installation, interior decoration, and water and electricity system layout. For example, after adding internal insulation layers, triple-glazed windows, and solar photovoltaic systems, the modification cost of a single container may increase by 10,000-30,000 yuan.
  • Transportation and Installation: Long-distance transportation costs are relatively high, and on-site assembly requires consideration of lifting equipment and labor costs.

III. Applicable Scenarios and Limitations of Container Houses

Container houses are suitable for temporary living, construction site dormitories, cultural tourism homestays, and other scenarios. Their advantages include rapid assembly, modular design, and reusability. However, as long-term residences, the following issues need to be addressed:

  • Insulation and Soundproofing: Comfort needs to be improved through internal insulation layers, double-layer walls, and soundproofing materials.
  • Approval Procedures: When used on homesteads or leased land, they need to comply with local building regulations to avoid being identified as illegal constructions.
  • Durability: Steel needs regular anti-rust treatment, and sealants need to be replaced every 5-7 years to prevent water leakage and corrosion.
