Setup Requirements for Portable Toilets at Construction Sites

Admin October 11, 2026

The setup requirements for portable toilets at construction sites cover aspects such as site selection and installation, quantity ratio, basic supporting facilities, sanitation maintenance, usage management, and emergency plans, as detailed below:

Site Selection and Installation: Requirements vary across different regions and scenarios. In Jingdezhen, they should be located close to the construction area or gathering points, no more than 50 meters from the work site, avoiding low-lying areas, excessively high terrain, or areas with obstacles to ensure smooth transportation channels. On construction sites, they can be placed near material storage areas. In Yichun, they should be placed more than 5 meters away from the construction area, away from water sources and fire sources. During installation, the ground should be level, fixed with expansion bolts, and at least 1.2 meters of space should be reserved around them. At project sites, portable toilets at landscape construction sites should be placed near sewage wells, those in garages should be placed in conspicuous locations or corners (with guiding signs), and those inside buildings should be set up every four floors, with one toilet per location and one squat pan per toilet.

Quantity Ratio: During peak construction periods in Jingdezhen, one toilet should be provided for every 50 people. For large-scale events, the standard is one toilet per 500 people, with a 20% reserve. The restrooms should have separate areas for men and women, and the proportion of toilets equipped with barrier-free facilities should be no less than 15%. At project sites, the standard for the number of portable toilets at landscape and garage construction sites is one squat pan per 50 people.

Basic Supporting Facilities: In Jingdezhen, non-slip floor tiles or gravel should be laid around the toilets, a simple drainage system should be set up, lighting equipment should be provided, and usage instructions and emergency contact information should be posted. At project sites, the maintenance structure must be made of non-combustible materials. If there are sewage pipes at landscape construction sites that can connect to septic tanks or municipal sewage networks, water-flush portable toilets with built-in sinks should be installed. For mobile toilets within the range of tower cranes during garage construction, bamboo fence protection should be added to the roof. Inside buildings, dry toilets can be used but must be cleaned by dedicated personnel on a daily basis to ensure daily disposal. The toilet maintenance structure should have exhaust grilles, and projects with conditions should install exhaust fans. Floor plans and guiding route maps for portable toilets should be posted in conspicuous locations on elevators and floors.

Sanitation Maintenance: In Jingdezhen, during the rental period, the toilets should be cleaned at least twice a day, with increased frequency in hot weather. In winter, anti-freezing measures should be taken, and dedicated cleaning tools and disinfectants should be provided. In Yichun, dedicated personnel should be arranged to clean the portable toilets at construction sites at least once in the morning and once in the evening every day. If blockages or leaks occur during use, the rental company should be contacted immediately for repairs.

Usage Management: In Yichun, clutter should not be stacked inside the restrooms. Smoking and the disposal of cigarette butts, construction waste, etc., into the toilets are strictly prohibited. Workers should flush the toilets promptly after use to keep the interiors dry. In hot summer weather, ventilation equipment or air fresheners can be placed. Conspicuous usage signs should be set up at the construction site.

Emergency Plans: In Jingdezhen, contingency measures should be formulated for sudden situations, such as preparing backup toilets in case of equipment failure, reinforcing equipment before extreme weather, and signing service agreements with the rental company to clarify fault response times. In Yichun, in case of severe weather, the fixation of the restrooms should be checked in advance and reinforced if necessary. In winter, anti-freeze agents should be added to the water tanks.
