Requirements for Portable Toilets at Construction Sites

Admin October 11, 2026

The requirements for portable toilets at construction sites cover multiple aspects, including site selection and installation, usage management, environmental maintenance, special response measures, hygiene standards, safety guarantees, and rental configurations.

In terms of site selection and installation, they should be placed at least 5 meters away from the construction area, on elevated, flat, and dry ground, away from hazardous areas. During installation, ensure the ground is level, secure them with expansion bolts or pour a concrete foundation, ensure the bottom rests steadily on the ground, and leave at least a 1.2-meter passage around them.

For daily usage management, assign dedicated personnel to clean them at least twice a day, in the morning and evening, including flushing the toilets, wiping surfaces, and replacing garbage bags. If blockages or leaks occur during use, immediately contact the rental provider for repairs. Flush daily to maintain cleanliness inside and out, with hardened floors, complete windows and doors, and good ventilation.

In terms of environmental maintenance, do not stack miscellaneous items in the restrooms. Strictly prohibit throwing cigarette butts, construction waste, etc., into the toilets. Workers should flush promptly after use to keep the interior dry. In hot summer weather, ventilation equipment or air fresheners can be placed to improve odors. It is advisable to install partitions between squatting positions that are no less than 0.9 meters high.

For special situation response, in the event of severe weather such as heavy rain or strong winds, check the fixation in advance and reinforce if necessary. In cold winter weather, add antifreeze to the water tank to prevent the water pipes from freezing.

The hygiene standards must comply with the third-class flushing public toilet hygiene standards in the 'Environmental and Hygiene Standards for Construction Sites' (jgj 146-2013). Non-flushing toilets should also follow these standards.

Regarding safety requirements, the framework and walls of the portable toilets should be sturdy, with no obvious deformations or cracks. Regularly check the opening and closing of windows and doors to ensure good ventilation. If electrical equipment is equipped, the wiring should be laid according to regulations, with no damage or leakage, and qualified leakage protection devices should be installed. Smoking is prohibited inside the portable toilets, which should be kept away from open-flame work areas. Equip them with an appropriate amount of fire extinguishers that are within their validity period and functioning properly, and keep evacuation passages clear.

For rental and configuration requirements, choose the number of rentals based on the number of construction workers and the length of the project duration. For projects lasting more than 3 months, long-term rental is recommended, while short-term projects can opt for temporary rental. You can choose portable toilets with ventilation systems or lighting equipment. Common configuration types include standard, eco-friendly, and barrier-free models.
