Layout of Mobile Toilets at Construction Sites

Admin October 11, 2026

The layout of mobile toilets at construction sites requires a comprehensive assessment of needs, standardized installation, and proper maintenance. The specific key points are as follows:

I. Preliminary Needs Assessment and Scheme Design

  1. Headcount Estimation: Determine the number of toilet stalls based on the number of construction workers, project duration, and peak periods. It is recommended to allocate one standard toilet stall for every 50 people, with the male-to-female ratio adjusted according to actual needs. For example, a construction site with 200 workers requires at least four toilet stalls, with the proportion of female stalls appropriately increased.
  2. Site Survey: Choose a location that is flat, has convenient drainage, and is close to the construction area to avoid interfering with material transportation or work surfaces. The installation location should be away from main construction roads, pollution sources (such as chemical storage areas), and the edges of foundation pits (it is recommended to maintain a distance of at least 1.5 meters), ensuring a flat and solid ground.
  3. Special Needs: If there are disabled individuals or high-temperature work areas on the construction site, communicate with the rental company in advance to customize barrier-free facilities (such as handrails and ramps) or cooling designs (such as sunshades and ventilation equipment).

II. Pre-installation Preparations

  1. Material Verification: After receiving the equipment, check the integrity of the toilet box and whether all accessories (door locks, flush valves, sewage pipes, etc.) are complete. Damaged parts should be replaced promptly.
  2. Foundation Treatment: Clear debris from the ground according to the type of toilet (single or connected), lay gravel or a concrete foundation, and ensure that the load-bearing capacity meets the standard (the load-bearing capacity of a single toilet should be at least 200 kg/㎡) to prevent settlement or tilting.

III. On-site Installation Steps

  1. Box Positioning: Use a forklift or crane to lift the toilet box smoothly to the designated location, keeping it level. When multiple people are involved, unified command is required to avoid collisions or tipping.
  2. Drainage Connection: Connect the sewage pipe to the construction site's drainage system or a temporary collection pit, seal the interface (using sealing tape or cement), and it is recommended to install an anti-backflow valve to prevent sewage backflow. When connecting to a septic tank, ensure that the capacity matches to avoid overflow.
  3. Flush System Debugging: After connecting the water supply, test the flush function and check whether the drainage pipes are unobstructed to avoid water accumulation or blockage.
  4. Internal and External Inspection: After installation, check whether the internal facilities (such as washbasins and hooks) are secure, whether the external sealing is good (no water or air leaks), and confirm that the signs are clear and comply with the Urban Environmental Sanitation Facilities Setting Standards.

IV. Compliance Requirements for Layout

Mobile toilets should be placed according to the planned locations, with spacing in compliance with fire safety regulations (at least 0.5 meters) to avoid obstructing passage or rescue operations due to dense stacking.

V. Daily Maintenance and Emergency Response

  1. Cleaning Frequency: Clean at least once a day, and increase to twice a day during peak periods (such as summer), with a focus on disinfecting frequently touched areas (door handles and flush buttons).
  2. Fault Response: The rental company should promise to arrive on-site for repairs within 2 hours to avoid equipment downtime affecting construction.
  3. Peak Season Support: During holidays or high-temperature periods, reserve spare equipment in advance to meet sudden demands.
