Installation Requirements for Mobile Toilets in Construction Sites

Admin October 09, 2026

The installation of mobile toilets at construction sites must adhere to the following requirements:

I. Installation Requirements

Flush or mobile toilets should be prioritized at construction sites to ensure hygiene standards are met. For high-rise buildings, temporary toilets must be installed every four floors once construction exceeds eight stories to meet the practical needs of workers at elevated levels, preventing reduced efficiency or safety hazards due to excessive distances for restroom access.

II. Location Selection

  1. Living Area Layout: Mobile toilets should be positioned inside the living area, 30 to 50 meters away from dormitories and canteens, facilitating nighttime use by workers while avoiding odor interference with dining and rest areas.
  2. Wind Direction and Shielding: Toilet orientation should avoid prevailing summer wind directions to prevent odors from drifting towards office or residential areas. If the site is surrounded by walls or barriers, toilets can be placed adjacent to them, utilizing the barriers for visual shielding and wind direction control.
  3. Underground Utility Inspection: Before site selection, confirm the absence of underground cables, gas pipelines, or main water supply lines. If necessary, consult the project technical lead to review and mark underground utility maps, preventing construction-related accidents.

III. Foundation Preparation

  1. Foundation Compaction: After removing surface soil and gravel, compact the foundation using a small rammer or manual labor, achieving a compaction rate of no less than 90% to ensure stability.
  2. Concrete Pad: Pour a 10 to 15 cm thick C20 concrete pad, extending at least 30 cm beyond the toilet's base outline on all sides to distribute loads and prevent rainwater backflow. For time-sensitive projects or frequent relocations, prefabricated reinforced concrete slabs or steel road plates can replace cast-in-place concrete, secured with fasteners.
  3. Drainage Slope: Maintain a 2% to 3% drainage slope on the foundation surface, directing water towards a collection ditch near the drainage outlet to prevent water accumulation.

IV. Main Structure Selection and Installation

  1. Material Recommendations: Use an integrated steel frame structure with high-density polyethylene (HDPE) wall panels or color-steel sandwich panels, offering light weight, high strength, corrosion resistance, and a Class A fire rating, suitable for frequent lifting and reuse on construction sites.
  2. Size Standards: Individual toilet units should ideally measure 1.2 meters in length, 1.2 meters in width, and 2.4 meters in height, with an interior clearance height of no less than 2 meters to ensure comfortable standing space for adult workers.
  3. Installation Tips: After unloading the toilet with a crane or forklift, carefully position it on the concrete pad and level it using a spirit level to prevent tilting, which could affect usability or drainage.
