Connection Between Container Houses

Admin September 15, 2026

The connection methods between container houses mainly include bolt connection, welding connection, and specialized connector connection, with the specific choice depending on the house type, usage scenario, and structural requirements.

1. Bolt Connection

Bolt connection is the most commonly used method for connecting container houses, especially suitable for modular buildings and relocatable container houses. For example, in a modular building project in North America by China Construction Steel Structure Corporation, high-strength bolts are used to connect the modules to the foundation, ensuring the overall structure can withstand strong typhoons and high-grade earthquakes. The advantages of bolt connection lie in its easy installation, strong disassembly capability, facilitating multiple relocations and reuse, aligning with the development trend of low-carbon recycling. Additionally, Guangdong Zhonglian Tiansheng has obtained a patent for a supporting steel column for multi-story container connections, which also adopts bolt connection. It achieves stable connection of containers through mounting plates and support frames while utilizing expansion components to increase usable area.

2. Welding Connection

Welding connection is typically used in scenarios with extremely high structural stability requirements, such as welded integral containers. This structure is welded as a whole in the factory, with a direct force path and strong anti-deformation capability, suitable for frequent lifting and movement. However, the drawback of welding connection is that it is difficult to disassemble after installation, with poor flexibility, and the welding quality requires high technical skills from workers. Therefore, welding connection is more commonly applied in fixed container houses or scenarios with special structural stability requirements.

3. Specialized Connector Connection

In addition to bolts and welding, container houses can also be connected through specialized connectors. For example, there are various types of connectors on the market, such as lateral twist locks and parallel locks, used for lateral or longitudinal connection of containers. These connectors usually have material guarantees and the characteristic of quick replacement, being able to adapt to the connection requirements of container houses of different sizes and types. Additionally, some innovative designs, such as large roof connections and staggered stacking, have also achieved spatial expansion and functional integration between container houses through specialized connectors.
