Anecdotes about Portable Toilets at Concerts

At G.E.M. Deng's concert, portable toilets sparked amusing anecdotes and complaints regarding unpleasant odors and staff attitudes, along with an amusing incident involving the singer herself needing to use the restroom mid-concert.

Unpleasant Odors Cause Audience Discontent

At G.E.M. Deng's concert held at the Taizhou Sports Center Stadium in Zhejiang, the placement of portable toilets became a major point of contention. These toilets were positioned close to the seating areas in the inner field. Due to limited ventilation and the high number of users, the audience was subjected to unpleasant odors throughout the evening. This significantly detracted from their viewing experience, forcing them to endure foul smells while trying to enjoy the musical performance, thereby diminishing the overall enjoyment of the event.

Staff Attitudes Spark Controversy

When audience members and staff raised concerns about the strong odor from the portable toilets, the responses from some staff members sparked controversy. They retorted, "Others can tolerate it, why can't you?" This attitude left the audience dissatisfied, as they felt the staff were not taking their concerns seriously and were not proactively taking steps to improve the situation. Instead, they responded with impatience and a confrontational manner to the audience's reasonable requests, further exacerbating the audience's discontent.

Anecdotes Related to G.E.M. Deng Herself

In addition to the issues caused by the portable toilets, an amusing incident occurred when G.E.M. Deng needed to use the restroom during the concert. In the middle of the performance, she suddenly had to go and asked the staff to help stall for time. Although unexpected, this episode added a unique touch of humor to the concert, giving the audience a glimpse of the star's authentic side offstage.

However, not all concert setups for portable toilets are as poor. For example, at the 2024 Joker Xue's tour concert in Qujing, 50 independent portable toilets were set up in front of the inner-field LED screen. At the 2023 Mayday concert in Shanghai, multiple portable restrooms were placed in the VIP audience area and beside the stage control booth, ensuring an adequate number and reasonable distribution, which received positive feedback from the audience.
