Concept Container House Design
Admin September 15, 2026
Container house design needs to comprehensively consider various factors such as structure, function, aesthetics, and performance:

Structural Design
- Basic Structure: Standard containers are used as the carriers for modification, with common sizes of 20 feet and 40 feet. They can be used as a single unit, combined with multiple units, or have side or end expansion modules added to the basic container structure. After expansion, the usable area can increase by 30%-50%. For example, the packing-box units of Suzhou Zhongnan Steel Structure Co., Ltd. adopt a full steel structure frame, performing excellently under extreme working conditions. They have a wind resistance rating of up to Level 12, an earthquake resistance rating of Level 8, and a frame deformation rate of only 0.18%.
- Modular Design: Modular design and industrial production are adopted. All components are prefabricated in the factory, and only lifting and simple connections are required on-site for commissioning. For instance, the Apple Pod container homestay uses a steel frame as the skeleton, with inner and outer wall panels made of thermal insulation materials. It also has pre-reserved interfaces for doors, windows, and water and electricity pipelines, greatly shortening the construction period and reducing interference with the on-site environment.
Functional Design
- Space Utilization: Space is reasonably arranged according to different uses. For example, in a container coffee space, an open service area and sales point are set up in the front, while storage space is arranged in the back. It is also equipped with a restroom that meets accessibility standards. Inside the container house, space can be divided through functional overlapping strategies. The kitchen and restroom are compressed to one end of the container to form a wet area, while the living and sleeping areas achieve day-night functional switching through the variability of furniture.
- Flexible Expansion: Assembled office buildings are composed of light steel keels and color steel plates, and are assembled on-site in a modular manner. They can be flexibly expanded according to the number of people and functional divisions, and are commonly seen in temporary offices in industrial parks and event planning sites.
Aesthetic Design
- Appearance Design: Elements such as glass curtain walls, wood grain finishes, and special-shaped structures can be combined, or curved and rounded exterior designs can be adopted to enhance visual appeal and optimize wind resistance and drainage performance. For example, the curved design of the Apple Pod container homestay creates a stark contrast between the huge black container building and the surrounding nature.
- Decorative Elements: Decorative elements such as murals can be added to the front of the container to enhance visual impact and create a unique industrial urban feel.
Performance Design
- Thermal Insulation: High-density insulation materials such as rock wool or polyurethane are filled inside the walls, and a moisture-proof layer and ventilation layer are combined to form a multi-layer protective system. Some container houses also adopt a three-layer structure, with the outer layer being galvanized plates to resist wind and sand erosion, the middle layer filled with rock wool as the main insulation layer, and the inner layer using PVC-coated steel plates to reduce heat radiation.
- Wind and Earthquake Resistance: The steel structure frame is calculated and reinforced to withstand the impact of high wind speeds and meet the usage requirements of most natural scenarios.
