Common Dimensions of Container Houses

Admin September 17, 2026

The common dimensions of container houses can be divided into two categories based on type: standard container dimensions and customized mobile panel house dimensions, as detailed below:

I. Standard Container Dimensions

Standard container dimensions are designed based on international general standards, primarily for transportation scenarios, but can also be modified for housing use.

  1. 20-foot Container:

    • External Dimensions: Length 5.898 meters (some models are 6.06 meters) × Width 2.352 meters (some models are 2.44 meters) × Height 2.39 meters (some models are 2.59 meters).
    • Internal Space: Due to differences in container wall thickness, the actual usable space is slightly smaller than the external dimensions, suitable for single or double occupancy, commonly used for temporary offices or small storage.
  2. 40-foot Container:

    • External Dimensions: Length 12.2 meters × Width 2.44 meters × Height 2.59 meters.
    • Internal Space: Approximately 30 square meters in area, can accommodate 4-6 people, or be converted into multifunctional spaces such as conference rooms or kitchens, a common choice for medium-sized container houses.
  3. 40-foot High Cube Container:

    • External Dimensions: Length 12.2 meters × Width 2.44 meters × Height 2.9 meters.
    • Internal Space: Height increased by 0.31 meters, can accommodate a two-story loft design, improving vertical space utilization, suitable for scenarios requiring tiered layouts.

II. Customized Mobile Panel House Dimensions

To meet different scenario requirements, container houses are often formed into non-standard dimensions through cutting, splicing, or modification, with common types including:

  1. 6 meters long × 3 meters wide × 2.7-2.8 meters high:

    • Area: Approximately 18 square meters, suitable for construction site dormitories, temporary offices, or small shops, can be extended in area through horizontal splicing.
  2. 3 meters long × 6 meters wide × 2.8 meters high:

    • Area: Approximately 18 square meters, but with greater width for easier internal layout optimization, can be spliced longitudinally to form elongated spaces or stacked into two-story structures.
  3. 3 meters long × 3 meters wide:

    • Area: Approximately 9 square meters, a small-sized container house, commonly used for guard posts, tool rooms, or temporary warehouses, flexible for transportation and low in cost.
  4. 7 meters long × 3 meters wide:

    • Area: Approximately 21 square meters, a large-sized container house, can be extended in functional areas through two-story splicing or adding corridors, suitable for office areas, exhibition halls, and other scenarios.

In addition, foldable container houses can double in size when unfolded, suitable for rapidly deployed temporary projects; slope-roof containers increase internal height by altering the roof structure, enhancing living comfort.
