Tips for Cleaning Portable Toilets

Admin October 10, 2026

Here are several scientific methods for cleaning portable toilets, which can be selected according to different scenarios:

1. Use biological enzyme preparations instead of strong acid and alkali cleaners Traditional strong acid and alkali cleaners can quickly remove dirt, but they are prone to corroding the plastic or metal tanks of portable toilets, shortening the equipment's lifespan. Biological enzyme preparations catalyze the decomposition of organic matter (such as proteins and fats in feces and urine) into harmless substances like water and carbon dioxide. They can not only remove dirt efficiently but also avoid chemical corrosion. When using them, dilute them according to the instructions, spray them, let them stand for 10-15 minutes, and then rinse with clean water.

2. High-pressure flushing after emptying the waste tank The waste tank is the core cleaning part of a portable toilet. After emptying the waste, use a high-pressure water gun (with a recommended pressure of ≥5MPa) equipped with a special rotating nozzle. Flush from the top of the tank downwards, using the rotating water flow to cover all corners of the inner wall to avoid residue. For stubborn stains, first scrub locally with a stiff-bristled brush and then flush to ensure no dead spots.

3. Synergistic sterilization with plant-based deodorizers and ultraviolet lamps The odor in portable toilets mainly comes from ammonia, hydrogen sulfide, etc., produced by bacteria decomposing excreta. Regularly spray plant-based deodorizers (such as tea tree oil and mint extracts), whose natural ingredients can neutralize odor molecules. At the same time, turn on an ultraviolet lamp (with a wavelength of 254nm) and irradiate for more than 30 minutes. Ultraviolet light can damage the DNA structure of bacteria, significantly reducing the survival rate of pathogenic bacteria such as Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus, thus improving hygiene levels through dual effects.

4. 'Dry cleaning' technology on construction sites In scenarios such as construction sites, portable toilets are used frequently and generate a large amount of waste. Use vacuum suction equipment (such as industrial sewage suction trucks) to remove the waste in a centralized manner, avoiding secondary pollution from manual cleaning. Then, wipe the toilet bowl, floor, and other contact surfaces with a waterless foam cleaner. The foam can wrap the stains and evaporate quickly, saving water resources and preventing sewage overflow, which is suitable for areas with water shortages or high environmental protection requirements.

5. Quick renovation plan for crowded scenarios At crowded events such as exhibitions and music festivals, portable toilets need to be quickly restored to cleanliness. Spray a quick deodorizing spray (containing activated carbon ingredients) inside the toilet cubicle to adsorb odors within 1 minute. At the same time, replace pre-installed cleaning pads (such as disposable antibacterial toilet seats). These two measures can renovate a toilet cubicle within 10 minutes, meeting the high turnover demand.

6. 'In-situ treatment' mode for ecological toilets in scenic spots For natural environment-sensitive areas such as scenic spots, adopt a microbial fermentation bed technology: Lay carbon-based materials such as sawdust and straw at the bottom of the waste tank and inoculate thermophilic bacteria and actinomycetes. Through fermentation to decompose excreta, combined with regular stirring (once a week) and adsorption by a carbon-based filter layer (such as coconut shell activated carbon), almost no external cleaning equipment is required, achieving 'zero-pollution' operation and maintenance.
