Cities with the Most Container Houses

Admin September 15, 2026

There is currently no precise data indicating which city has the highest number of container houses, but port cities such as Shenzhen, Guangzhou, Qingdao, and Shanghai have a relatively large number of container enterprises, suggesting a higher potential for container house applications.

  • From the perspective of container enterprise quantity: According to Qichacha data, provinces in China with a relatively large number of container enterprises include Shandong, Guangdong, and Jiangsu. Among them, Shandong Province has the highest number of container enterprises, reaching 36,900; Guangdong Province has 34,000, and Jiangsu Province has 24,300. At the city level, Shenzhen ranks first among all cities in terms of the number of container enterprises, with 14,800; port cities such as Guangzhou, Qingdao, and Shanghai also have more than 10,000 container enterprises each, with 12,300, 11,400, and 10,600 respectively. Due to their developed port trade, these cities have active businesses in container production, transportation, and modification, which may lead to a higher number of container house applications.

  • From the perspective of container house application scenarios: Container houses offer advantages such as flexible assembly and disassembly, high cost-effectiveness, and environmental friendliness. They are widely used in various scenarios, including temporary construction at engineering sites, cultural tourism homestays, commercial pop-ups, convenience stores, and emergency shelters. For example, the Rong IN·BOX Container Town in Shenyang is creatively stacked from over 200 containers, covering an area of 85,000 square meters and forming the first container commercial town in the country; the TEU Container Tribe in Qingdao uses a combination of steel structures and containers to create a stylish commercial complex with a building area of nearly 6,100 square meters. These application cases indicate that container houses are more widely used in economically developed and innovation-active cities.
