Chongqing Mobile Toilet Renovation

Admin September 23, 2026

Chongqing has implemented a series of scientific and human-oriented measures in the renovation of mobile toilets, covering multiple dimensions such as facility upgrades, layout optimization, technological advancements, and design innovation.

1. Renovation of Supporting Facilities in Old Residential Areas to Enhance Basic Functions

Chongqing is advancing facility upgrades through the “2025 Supporting Mobile Public Toilet Project for Old Residential Areas,” focusing on the demolition and replacement of five mobile public toilets and improving their internal configurations. The renovated toilets are equipped with standard toilet stalls and sinks, and additional management and utility rooms are added to meet daily maintenance needs. With an estimated project investment of 1.3026 million yuan and a construction period of three months, the project rapidly enhances the public toilet service capacity in old areas and resolves residents' toilet access issues through concentrated resource allocation.

2. Scientific Layout Planning to Meet Dynamic Demands

In response to varying foot traffic, Chongqing adheres to the principle of “reasonable spacing and urgent needs first,” prioritizing the construction of new public toilets in high-demand areas such as bus stops and park squares. For example, the public toilet on Yanyu Road in Nan'an District employs IoT technology to monitor toilet usage in real-time, dynamically adjusting the ratio of male to female toilet stalls. During peak hours, the number of female toilet stalls increases by 30%, effectively alleviating queueing issues. Such renovations not only optimize space utilization efficiency but also demonstrate precise responses to the needs of special groups.

3. Technology-Empowered Management to Promote Intelligent Upgrades

Chongqing has introduced the “Urban Public Toilet Quality and Quantity Improvement (2020-2022) Implementation Plan,” emphasizing technology-driven service enhancements. In addition to optimizing toilet stall ratios, some public toilets have incorporated intelligent monitoring systems that display real-time data on toilet stall availability and air quality, guiding users to available stalls via apps or electronic screens. Furthermore, the application of technologies such as automatic sensor flushing and touchless handwashing facilities has further improved hygiene standards and reduced the risk of cross-infection.

4. Emphasis on Design Aesthetics to Suit Diverse Scenarios

The renovated mobile toilets transcend traditional functional limitations, emphasizing both internal and external quality. The interior walls feature stain-resistant tiles, and the floors are laid with anti-slip tiles, balancing practicality and aesthetics. The exterior design incorporates regional cultural elements, such as antique eaves and painted walls, harmonizing with the surrounding environment. To cater to different scenario needs, some public toilets also include母婴室 (maternity rooms) and third toilets (gender-neutral restrooms), reflecting the city's warmth and inclusivity.

Chongqing's mobile toilet renovation, through a comprehensive strategy of “functional enhancement + technological empowerment + aesthetic design,” not only addresses fundamental livelihood issues but also propels urban public services toward refinement and intelligence, providing a replicable practical model for other regions.
