Chongqing Bus Mobile Toilet
The Chongqing bus mobile toilet is an independently deployable sanitation facility built to address the difficulty faced by bus drivers and citizens in finding restrooms.

Construction Background
Bus stops lack basic service facilities, with restroom issues being particularly prominent. Bus routes are frequently adjusted, and supporting facilities are not uniformly planned, making it difficult to connect to water and electricity supplies and handle drainage. Restrooms in social units open late and close early, are far from bus stops, and have long round-trip times. They also have few stalls and high foot traffic. As a result, drivers often reduce their water intake, hold their urine, or wear diapers to ensure they depart on time. Long-term urine retention not only causes diseases but also makes drivers nervous and irritable, preventing them from concentrating on driving and posing safety risks.
Relevant Suggestions and Handling
Yang Li, a municipal people's congress representative, proposed the Suggestion on Urgently Solving the Difficulty of Bus Drivers Finding Restrooms, suggesting that bus starting points be included in the public restroom planning system, the construction of fixed or supporting mobile restrooms be accelerated, and their management and maintenance be strengthened. This suggestion received significant attention, and relevant departments collaborated to formulate and issue the Implementation Plan for Increasing the Quantity and Improving the Quality of Urban Public Restrooms (2021-2022), planning to add 150 new public restrooms, with bus stops as key areas; encourage social units to open their restrooms to bus drivers; strengthen the planning and layout of public restrooms around bus stops, promote new-technology public restrooms; and enhance maintenance, renovation, and daily operation management. At the bus starting point on Huanglong Road North in Yubei District, the bus dispatch room was expanded according to local conditions, and restrooms and stalls were added; signs for social units' restrooms and public restrooms near bus stops were installed to improve the guidance system.
Characteristics of Mobile Restrooms
- Design Features: Lightweight materials are used for easy transportation and installation; the internal space is optimized for both practicality and comfort; the position can be quickly adjusted to respond to changes in foot traffic or emergencies. In the mountainous city of Chongqing, some models are equipped with anti-slip bases and slope adjustment devices to ensure stability; the exterior design is simple and harmonizes with the surrounding environment.
- Internal Functions and Sanitation Management: Internal facilities include toilets, sinks, ventilation systems, and lighting equipment. The toilets focus on water conservation and environmental protection, with some using vacuum flushing technology; the sinks are equipped with automatic sensor faucets; the ventilation system maintains air circulation and reduces odors; low-energy lighting is used, with some models having emergency lighting functions. Daily maintenance includes regular cleaning, disinfection, and garbage collection, using environmentally friendly cleaning agents, adjusting the disinfection frequency based on usage, and designing the garbage collection system to be airtight, with some models equipped with real-time monitoring equipment.
