Chinese Prefabricated Houses Exported to the US
Chinese prefabricated houses exported to the US show a significant trend, demonstrating advantages in export scale, price, delivery cycle, quality design, and market response.

Export Scale Growth
In the first half of 2026, China's total export value of prefabricated buildings reached $2.79 billion, a year-on-year increase of 45%, with the US being one of the important buyer sources. Taking China Construction Steel Structure Jiangsu Co., Ltd. as an example, its full range of modular houses secured the first North American order. The four independent modules were packed into containers for transoceanic transportation and directly assembled on-site at the North American project location, delivering finished residential products that met local standards.
Significant Price Advantage
Chinese exported prefabricated houses offer a significant price advantage. An American couple purchased a 40-foot prefabricated house from Alibaba.com, with the house priced at $15,800. Including shipping costs, tariffs, and other expenses, the total cost amounted to $28,689. The average price of ordinary mobile houses exported from China ranges from $6,000 to $10,000 per unit. After adding tariffs, ocean freight, and other costs, the total landed price usually does not exceed $30,000 to $40,000, equivalent to one-third to one-half of the cost of a house of the same area in the US.
Short Delivery Cycle
Chinese prefabricated houses excel in delivery cycle. Taking He Shi (Hebei) Integrated Housing Co., Ltd. as an example, the production cycle for houses ranges from 25 to 30 days, and ocean shipping to the US takes 45 to 50 days, resulting in a total delivery period of less than three months. In contrast, the construction cycle for local houses in the US is approximately 6 to 18 months, with higher labor costs, highlighting the advantages of Chinese prefabricated houses.
Quality and Design Recognition
Chinese prefabricated houses have gained recognition in the US market for their quality and design. The model house at the China Construction Steel Structure modular building production base features a well-organized kitchen and bathroom layout and exquisite living room decor, meeting the standards of finished residential products on the market. The prefabricated houses produced by He Shi (Hebei) Integrated Housing Co., Ltd. come with basic decorations upon leaving the factory, including fully equipped bedrooms, kitchens, and bathrooms. Users only need to add furniture and connect utilities to move in.
Enthusiastic Market Response
Chinese prefabricated houses have become a hot topic on overseas social media. The unboxing video of a Chinese prefabricated house posted by Grateful Off-Grid, an American couple, on YouTube has garnered over 3 million views and more than 4,000 comments. According to Alibaba.com data, from January to June this year, the gross merchandise volume (GMV) of the mobile housing category on the platform increased by over 50% year-on-year, with the top three buyer sources being the US (accounting for over 20%), Australia, and Mexico.
