China Mobile Landscape Toilet

Admin October 22, 2026

The China Mobile Landscape Toilet is a public facility centered around movable and modular design, combining practical functions with landscape harmony. Represented by the pilot project on the Qiantang River embankment in Hangzhou, it demonstrates its innovative application in urban construction.

I. Basic Concept and Construction Mode

The China Mobile Landscape Toilet adopts a modular construction approach of factory prefabrication and on-site hoisting. Taking Hangzhou's first movable landscape public toilet as an example, its main structure is produced in a factory and then transported to the designated location for installation via hoisting. It only requires connection to water and electricity pipelines to be put into use. This mode significantly shortens the construction cycle and allows for point adjustments based on actual needs in the later stage, avoiding the resource waste caused by the fixed location selection of traditional public toilets. For instance, the pilot public toilet on the Qiantang River embankment was built through technology introduction by the Jianggan District Urban Management Bureau in cooperation with Sijiqing Street. It opened on June 29, 2019, and there are plans to add similar facilities in the surrounding areas in the future.

II. Functional Design and User Experience

The public toilet is equipped with standardized sanitary facilities inside, including urinals, squat toilets, and sinks, and integrates intelligent functions to enhance user convenience. For example, music is automatically played when the door is closed to protect privacy, and the automatic flushing system is triggered when the door is opened, reducing manual operations. Meanwhile, it is equipped with deodorizing and sterilizing devices that continuously purify the air through physical or chemical means, improving the odor problem of traditional public toilets. These designs not only meet basic needs but also reflect attention to user comfort.

III. Movability and Resource Optimization

Movability is the core advantage of the China Mobile Landscape Toilet. Its modular structure allows for overall relocation or reorganization, adapting to scenarios such as urban planning adjustments and tourist season人流 (should be 'tourist season crowd fluctuations', here 'tourist season人流' is translated as 'tourist season crowd fluctuations' in a more natural way in the context) changes. For example, in the pilot project on the Qiantang River embankment, the public toilet can be flexibly adjusted in position according to seasonal activities or temporary needs, avoiding land idleness caused by fixed construction. In addition, it occupies a relatively small area, and its exterior design focuses on harmony with the surrounding environment (such as tourist attractions and parks), reducing visual incongruity through the integration of colors and materials with the landscape.

IV. Application Prospects and Promotion Value

Based on the pilot results, relevant departments plan to add more mobile public toilets near the Qiantang River embankment, indicating that its mode is replicable. Such facilities are especially suitable for areas with tight land use, large crowd fluctuations, or a need for rapid response to demands, such as scenic spots, commercial streets, and temporary event venues. Through modular production and standardized management, the China Mobile Landscape Toilet provides an efficient, flexible, and environmentally friendly solution for urban public facility construction.
